I’m always on the lookout for fun construction toys for my toddler. She’s two years old and love to build (and destroy). I think I’ve found the perfect toy for her in Stickle Bricks! These used to be my absolute favourite toys when I was little and I think my mum might even still have a box of them somewhere, so I was delighted to get my hands on the Stickle Bricks Little Builder set for my daughter.

The Stickle Bricks Little Builder set is a fab starter set to get little hands exploring. I love that they come in lots of gorgeous bright colours, which I’m sure makes them extra interesting to kids. Orlaith was certainly taken with hers!
What age is the Stickle Bricks Little Builder Set Suitable From?
The box says the set is suitable from 18 months and I think that’s about right. That’s the age they get a bit more nimble with their fingers and interested in construction toys.
Orlaith is 2 and a half, and she really, really likes this set. She’s been playing with it every day and is keen to get me involved and show me what she’s built. If she gets them out when Greg’s around, he can’t help himself and sits down and builds with her. I don’t think there’s an upper age limit really, even I have a nice little time when we’ve got them out!
Are Stickle Bricks Easy to Handle?
I know when I’m buying for younger kids specifically, I want to know how easy the toys are to handle. With this Stick Bricks Little Builder Set being suitable from 18 months+ I expected them to be made for little hands and I can confirm that they are.
They’re lovely to handle, with the bumpy edges feeling very tactile even my hands (and I’m a grown up!) They stick together and pull apart with ease so you’re not going to have to deal with any frustrated little companions. Well you might, but it won’t be down to the Stickle Bricks.
Are Stickle Bricks Helpful for Your Child’s Development?
Anything that involves getting your children to work on their fine motor skills is a good toy to help with their development. The size of the Stickle Bricks are fab for little hands, and the way they stick together easily stops younger children getting frustrated as they hone their skills. They definitely seem to help with dexterity.
I’ve also found them to be a great talking point for chatting about colours with Orlaith. It’s easier to get colours into normal sentences when you’re playing with colourful items and I think that’s the easiest way to encourage learning. A simple “please can you pass me that red square” gets her a bit more aware of colours. The same goes for shapes too, and while she’s probably a bit young grasp talk of semi-circles, when she’s a bit bigger it’ll definitely help.
