If I have to sort out messy play indoors, it’s a bit of an ordeal as I rent so have to put protective sheets over every surface. If anyone were to stop by while I was preparing for messy play, they might suspect I have a Dexter situation going on.
Personally, I think sand and water tables can be used inside too. We have laminate in our back room, so if I put a big towel down and bring the table indoors, it can be played with in all weathers and it’s easy to clean up.

The Smoby Sand & Water Play Table comes as a flat pack but is super easy to put together. I managed to assemble it in second with zero tantrums (and I’m someone who considers owning one screwdriver with two heads a ‘toolbox’).
It’s lightweight, you can assemble it inside and take it out, or move it around the garden easily. One of the best things about it is that it comes with a modular cover. So you can protect it when it’s not in use, but if you just want your child to play with the sand and not the water (or vice versa) you can uncover only one side at a time. Genius!
What does the Smoby Sand & Water Play Table come with?
The box contains all the parts to build the table, plus the cover and two sand moulds, a boat, a rake and a small spade. All you need to provide is the sand and water!

How can the Smoby Sand & Water Play Table be used?
You can pretty much used the table how and where you like. I think of it as more of an outdoor toy, but there’s no reason you can’t bring it indoors. The summer is a great time to play in the garden (especially with water) but I’d use this most of the year. Colder months just need a coat and wellies!
I would describe the table as sturdy, despite being lightweight. It would be difficult to flip and everything feel good quality, which makes me think it will last years. I always keep toys for the younger siblings to play with so I think this one is going last me well.
Our overall opinion
Greg loves the sand and water table and Orlaith has already taken an interest. I daresay she’ll be getting stuck in when she hits the 18 month mark and is happy to stand for longer periods. It’s one of those toys you’ll be glad you bought. When it brings joy to several children in your family, it always feels like money well spent. It gets a thumbs up from me and the kids!
