We love outdoor toys in our household, we simply cannot have enough! I try to get the kids outside and away from technology as much as I can, so when I was given the opportunity to review the Bubble Science Kit from Toys and Bears, I was really excited.
The Bubble Science kit comes in a smallish box, the size of a board game box, which makes it super transportable. Although I’m staying put this year, if I was going to a holiday cottage, it’s the sort of toy I’d pack to take with me. Bubbles tend to be a hit with kids of all ages, and while my middle child will get the most out of it, the baby will get a kick out of chasing bubbles and even the almost-teenager was interested too!
Bubble Science Kit Review
The kit contains 6 bubble-based activities and makes change from your standard bubble-blowing activities. I’m one of those mums who tries to sneak STEM activities in front of my children so they don’t know they’re having fun learning. I’m the daughter of a teacher and strongly believe the best way to get kids to take things in is to make it fun and never let them know they’re learning!
What’s in the Bubble Science kit?
The set includes:
- 2 bottles of bubble solution
- a bubble dish
- 3 balloons
- 4 straws
- a funnel
- 9 different bubble wands
- 2 straws tied with string
I must admit, I was a little baffled when I first saw the contents. I didn’t know how some of the objects could work, but the instructions make everything clear. It helps the kids (and me) discover how bubbles can be formed.
The experiments in the Bubble Science Set
The first experiment looks at making bubbles with different wands. You end up making loads of bubbles pf various sizes. I liked the big ones but Greg was keen on the teeny tiny ones.
The second looks at blowing bubbles with straws, which was a hit and Greg kept wanting to go back to!
The third is using a bottle to inflate a balloon. We don’t have any baking soda and vinegar in at the moment, so when next week’s shopping comes, we’ll be getting this back out to try.
The fourth is using a funnel to blow bubbles. This one was my favourite as I was trying to make the biggest bubble possible.
The fifth experiment was the bubble wall. This is where you use the straws joined with string to create, well, a bubble wall. You have to dip the straws in the solution then pull them out and slowly separate them. There’s definitely a knack to this.
The last experiment is about looking at different ways to make soap bubbles. You need to look around your home for items that could be used, such as your wedding ring, or a cylinder shape.
Overall Opinion
The Bubble Science set retails at £22.99 and I think it’s worth it for the entertainment value because it’s transportable and really fun. You can take it with you to Grandma’s house for the afternoon, on a getaway or just in your garden. This means it’s easy to store too, but it’s packed with activities inside. The suggested age is 8-14, so you can revisit it several times, all you’ll need to do it replace the bubble solution when you run out!
We love it, definitely worth it if you love STEM toys that the kids will enjoy without ever knowing they learnt something!
