Clothes layering for cold weather is expected in winter. The trouble is, not everyone is confident with how to put together an outfit that is both warm and stylish. As the temperature drops, the amount of clothes you wear at once should increase.
One good thing about clothes layering for cold weather is that it allows you to stop being so reliant on artificial heating options. Central heating can dehydrate you skin, creating dry patches, flaky areas, and even the appearance of wrinkles! It can even make your hair fuzzy and brittle if you’re exposed to too much heat.
Thankfully, layering clothes looks amazing and is great option for the winter months. Femme Luxe have some gorgeous layering options, as well as some great clothes to wear as part of your layered outfits!
Clothes Layering for Cold Weather

Now that the season has started to change and the cold has set in, it’s time to get your layering on!
Think about what you want from your outfit – comfort, style, or a bit of both?
Whatever the look you’re hoping to achieve, these clothes have got you covered.
Choose a base layer
Start your layering journey by throwing on a base layer. This can be something to cover you up and keep you warm, or clothes that you’d like to be seen. The choice is yours.
If you’re not sure where to start, black dresses make the ideal base as they’re so incredibly versatile. Team with thick tights and boots and you’ve got your base. Then you can finish the outfit with your warmer clothing options on top. This is a great way to keep it simple if you don’t like to go bold with your outfit choices.

If you’re trying to turn a strappy, summer number into a winter outfit with layers, you might need to get creative. Plain block coloured tops look great under strappy dresses, and things like cardigans and shackets can be worn on top.
Even skimpy white dresses have a place in winter under layers – you just need to get the combo right. Again, got for a top under the dress to add extra depth. This will make you look more ready for the cold weather. You could try wearing a shirt as the bottom layer, with a dress on top and a cardigan or jacket as a finishing top layer.
Decide what needs to be seen
The beauty of layering your clothes is that you can choose what to put on display. Simple things like making a dress look like a skirt by wearing a top over it can be a really great trick. Likewise, you might want to wear a rollneck jumper with some denim shorts, tights and a shacket. The second outfit shows off every item of clothing while the first strategically hides areas.

If your main concern is warmth, you might want to wear a vest top and a long sleeved T-shirt under a hoody. If style comes first, your layers will need to be carefully curated for the perfect look. This also a great way to stretch your summer wardrobe as something great to wear all year round.
Don’t forget accessories go great with layers too. A beanie hat can pull together an outfit, as can a chunky scarf if you’re feeling chilly.
Pick your top layer wisely
The top layers of clothing are more or less endless these days. Shackets are big news, and a personal favourite of mine. Want something lighter than a jacket but warmer than a shirt? A shacket is for you. In my opinion, they don’t get enough praise!

Another option is the time tested cardigan. I promise these aren’t just for dusty librarians and people who have watched New Girl too many times. Cardigans are having a renaissance and as far as I’m concerned – the quirkier the better. They’re known for being super toasty, so why not add a bit of character by choosing an unusual design?
Jumpers also have their own special place. They can make a dress look like a skirt by concealing certain parts of it. They’re also good for showing a flash of collar or a dash of the bottom of your shirt underneath. A handy tool for staying warm and making your jumper look less boring.
