How to Create Engaging Email Content for Your Blog’s Newsletter

AD

Running a blog often feels like you’re spinning multiple plates. Not only are you supposed to be constantly thinking of topics to discuss, you’re expected to create interesting photographs and generally pleasant imagery for your posts. On top of that there’s the promotion side of things.

What’s the point of writing a post, if no ones reads it?

Promoting your work is incredibly important because it helps people find your site. While social media promotion can be effective and will definitely keep you busy, it’s also important to look into email promotion.

Even if your blog isn’t selling anything, it’s still important to build a mailing list and use it. It’s a great way to let your regular readers know when you have something new that might interest them. Obviously, it’s important not to spam your subscribers, but you should be emailing them frequently help keep that relationship with them.

How to Create Engaging Emails

If you’re sending emails to your regular readers, then you need to keep them interested. The worst thing you can do is inadvertently bore them by sending low quality content that doesn’t interest them. That’s why you need to put a lot of effort into creating engaging emails.

Emails Should Look Impressive

You want your emails to look the part, so ensure you put some effort in the design. You can create nice looking email headers and graphics with simple design software. You could even grab a free font to help your design stand out from other email newsletters. Something like tattoo font would look really cool if you have a young, hip audience. It’s important to pick the right font for the right audience. If your newsletter is about legal advice for the over 60’s, you probably want something a bit less fun and a bit more serious.

Add Pictures to Break Up Text

I like to add my blog logo as my email header, then a relevant picture or two within the email to help break up the text. Your email should be a taster for what’s on your site, so don’t show off all your best pictures in one email, just a couple will do to help you entice people to the site.

Don’t Waste Words

Newsletters are supposed to be concise and to the point. You don’t want to give the game away in the email and make it so your readers don’t need to click through to your site. The newsletter should entice them over to your site to read more.

The best way to do that is to keep editing down what you’ve written until it’s short, sweet and intriguing. If you send newsletters rounding up your week, in the hope of encouraging people to read about it on your site, then a couple of lines about each new post should do. Opening an email that is made up of reams of words is off-putting. Keep it short, keep it tantalising.

When it comes to engaging your audience through email marketing, the key rule is to stay interesting. If you wouldn’t read it, then why would your readers? Be honest with yourself and give your audience what you know they want. Never write an email for the sake of it, if you have nothing to say, then nothing needs to be said!
