Essentials for Your Spring Capsule Wardrobe

It is winter, we are in lockdown, and things are feeling pretty grim. So why not look forward to what is coming, with warmer weather, sunshine, and all things spring. With Easter and growing flowers, it is a time to embrace a lot of colour, especially pastels, and enjoy that mixed season of combining summer fashion with autumn and winter fashion. But what are the best items of clothing to have in your wardrobe for spring? Here are some things to think about.

Trench Coat

Hate to say it, but you are still going to need a coat in the spring; spring flowers bring April showers, isn’t that how the saying goes? Although you won’t need a thick coat for layering up with, so thick winter coats can go away, choosing a coat that looks good, but will keep you dry if there is rain, is a light trench coat. Worn with jeans as well as dresses, it can be dressed up or dressed down, collar up or collar down, bringing some rather chic detective style for the spring.

Floral Dress

Spring means flowers, so what better way to embrace all things spring than wearing a floral dress? The ‘prairie’ vibe is still going strong this year, with square necks, as well as many split-front dresses looking good this season. They can be worn with tights and boots when still cooler in temperature, or worn with a large cardigan and sandals when the temperature starts to rise.

Denim Shorts

For a busy mum, dresses can be great but aren’t always that practical. That is why some denim shorts are a must for spring. Worn with a pair of Converse or Vans, along with a hoodie or a slogan tee, you’ve got a simple outfit that looks good but is practical as anything. Knee length or thigh length, you choose, but they will see you well into the summer too.

Canvas Pumps

For something light to run around in, schools run to the food shop, canvas pumps are a great choice for spring. They can be worn with dresses, as well as with jeans or shorts, and can even be worn with an ankle-grazing trouser suit if you’re heading into the office. White is a good colour to go for with canvas pumps, although some pops of colour or animal print add some personality.

Denim Midi Skirt

If you are a lover of denim but aren’t quite ready to commit to shorts this spring, then embrace the denim midi skirt. Yes, the staple from the 90s is back! A midi over a mini is much more practical for day to day life and outings, and can be easily worn with a plain jersey top or statement tee for a cool look, rather than wearing it with a cardigan.

White Blouse

In many ways, spring is still not warm enough to wear short sleeves, so if you fancy easing yourself into all things spring, then how about doing that with a cute white blouse? Worn with a floaty skirt or jeans, it is a good take on smart casual.
