Chicco Cheerio Stroller Review – A Compact, Auto-folding Stroller | AD

I’ve been on the hunt for the ideal compact stroller for some time now. Thankfully, the very nice people over at Chicco have allowed me to give their Cheerio stroller a whirl. I put it through some thorough testing on various terrains (I live in Lincolnshire, which boasts countryside, beaches and plenty of pavement).

The Chicco Cheerio stroller is really popular with those who like to travel. Weighing in at just 6.1kg and folding down to the incredibly compact size of  L53cm x W44cm x H25cm means you could even take it on board a plane as hand luggage! Amazing right?

I was really excited to test it out. Here’s what what we thought.

Chicco Cheerio Compact Stroller Review

The Chicco Cheerio stroller is available in two colourways – jet black and blossom pink. We received the blossom pink design, which is very pretty colour that we frequently end up matching on outings (both me and the baby!)

Our daughter is an average-sized 16 month old and fits comfortably into the seat and there seems to be plenty of growing room. The specifications suggest it’s suitable from birth up to 15kgs (which I think works out to be about age 3 for the average tot).

How easy is the Chicco Cheerio stroller to use?

Ease of use is incredibly important when it comes to using a stroller you want to take travelling. Whether you’re staying in the country, having family days out, or a holiday abroad, you need something simple.

I found the folding and unfolding of the stroller incredibly easy. It’s called an auto-folding stroller, which it really is! Take out the baby, then press the button to collapse before giving it a little push down and it does it all for you.

To unfold it, you’re looking at the similarly easy method of just pulling up the handle. At a push, I’d say you could do it with one hand too. This is ideal if you’re a one-parent family, or simply used to having your hands full. It also makes it easy for bus and train travel, as no time is wasted by struggling to fold and unfold the stroller.

How does the Chicco Cheerio stroller fare on different terrains?

As I mentioned above, I live in an area that has many terrains. We took the stroller out to put each one to the test.

Pavement

Pavement is a stroller’s bread and butter. Everyone expects to be able to use a stroller on pavement, and this one passed with flying colours. It was smooth to push and easy to control. It didn’t give a bumpy ride and Orlaith, our resident toddler and buggy tester, seemed happy and comfy.

Countryside

When we tried some country trails we had a mixed experience. Normal length grass was fine, as was all those natural footpaths that appear from lots of foot traffic.

We reached a particularly uneven bit of a public footpath in a field that was hard going. It had lots of concealed lumps and clumps of cut grass hiding the dips. This was a bit of a struggle, but I think the area was unsuitable for strollers in general and would be surprised if any could tackle it well. Apart from the one rocky bit of path, it fared really well on grassy and even muddy areas and I was very happy with it.

Beach

For beach visits, one of the biggest things is getting the stroller down onto the sand. The beach near me has far fewer ramps than it does steps and all lead on to dry sand which no wheels stand a chance with. I think when you take buggy to the beach, you’re looking for something that’s easy to get down onto the wet sand where you can push it. This means it needs to be light enough for you to transport one-handed, because you’re likely to be loaded up with a baby (and probably bags) too. The Chicco Cheerio is very lightweight and was easy to take over to the wet sand. Once on the wet sand, it handled it well and was easy to push. This is definitely a great buggy for the beach.

Features we love about the Chicco Cheerio Stroller

We love everything about the Cheerio stroller, but I thought I’d share some info that might not be apparent from the pictures or sales pages.

The stroller folds up really small, really quickly. I’ve never seen such an uncomplicated fold, or a stroller fold so tiny! It’s great to keep in the car boot as it takes up barely any space and doesn’t weigh much either.

The hood is UV protective, so your tot gets some extra sun protection when you’re out and about. It’s still important to use sunscreen too, but I’m really pleased with that extra layer of protection. It also fully reclines, so if you child nods off, you can drop them back and they can have a nap with the hood keeping them in the shade.

The Cheerio stroller comes with a carry bag to protect it once it’s folded, and a rain cover – which I think we can all agree is a necessity on a British day out! Both can be kept in the small shopping tray underneath when you’re not using them.

All in all, the Cheerio stroller is a great, affordable buy for a busy family who loves to get out and about. The RRP is £169.00 and the stroller is available from lots of popular retailers.
