*AD- I received this calming winter skincare routine kit from Dermalogica for the purpose of this review

Winter months are always the worst for your skin. They can cause redness, dehydration and all kinds of flare-ups, which is why a calming winter skincare routine is essential.
I suffer from mild rosacea, which definitely gets worse in the winter. Sometimes it makes my skin sensitive, but mostly it’s just redness that I battle to disguise. I managed to hide it well with camouflage, using a green primer, a green colour corrector and a foundation with yellow tones to neutralise the red and give me a more normal skin tone.
Before my 30’s, I didn’t really suffer with redness and would even go on nights out with no foundation on.
A thought that fills me with horror now!
Calming Winter Skincare Routine from Dermalogica
I’ve been trialling a new winter skincare routine from Dermalogica which has not only helped with the redness, but re-hydrated my skin and made it feel soft and smooth.
The routine has left me with glowing winter skin and given me the ability to go out barefaced again without looking like beetroot-person hybrid!

Cleansing during your calming winter skincare routine
Cleansing is the first step (and very important) step in your skincare routine. The double-cleanse has revolutionised my skincare routine. I didn’t realise how much rubbish gets left on your skin after one basic cleanse.
If you’re a regular makeup-wearer and don’t double cleanse, chances are you’re leaving all kinds of residue on your skin. This will mess up all other efforts you’ve made in your skincare and can ultimately cause premature ageing.
First Cleanse: Dermalogica Precleanse Balm

Use this balm to melt away the day. It’s an oil made of Apricot kernels and it a lovely nourishing cleansing balm.
Second Cleanse: Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser (essential for a calming winter skincare routine)

After rinsing off the precleanse balm, it’s time for your second cleanse to deep clean your skin. It’s very important to hydrate your skin as much as possible at this time of year. Cold weather and constant artificial heating systems can make your skin drier than the Sahara Desert. Don’t go for a cleanser that will strip your skin even more.
This cleanser helps maintain the skin’s moisture while giving it a thorough clean!
Exfoliation: Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel

Exfoliation is key to getting that winter glow. You need to rid your skin of the dull, dead cells that can cling on, and expose the fresh, bright layer below. Use this weekly or kickstart with a tube a day for three days to get fast results.
Anti-Redness Balm: Dermalogica Redness Relief Essence

This has been a real game-changer. I didn’t know about it until I received it in my skincare bundle and it has honestly changed everything for me!
I mentioned above about my struggle with redness and the elaborate way I conceal it. This redness relief essence means I can go without foundation and not be embarrassed about my complexion. Apply after cleansing but before any other moisturising treatments.
This is the redness I deal with day-to-day. I’ve seen worse in the skincare community, and I know mine isn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things, but before I’d figured out how cover it, I used to be really embarrassed about being really red-faced in group photos. It made me look constantly boiling hot and drunk. not a great look.
This is me after a shower:

This is more than just redness from being in hot water. It would stay like this all day and often glow through foundation. If I’m honest I think my phone camera has taken some of the saturation out of the colour, but it was really important to me not to use a filter on this photo or the after photo so you can see honest results.
This is about 30 minutes after applying the redness relief essence, layered with a barrier oil and a moisturiser (these are featured below):

I’m wearing no makeup in this, hence the reason why the eyebags make it look like I haven’t slept for a decade (I haven’t). I look a bit shiny because of oil and moisturiser that is yet to sink in, but take note of how bright and not-red my skin looks! No filter has been used either and I think the results are very noticeable!
Layering Treatment Oil: Barrier Defense Booster

Layer this over the anti-redness essence but under the moisturiser to protect your skin from the elements. It reinforces your skin’s natural barrier and is a soothing oil for irritated skin too. A gorgeous multi-tasker!
Moisturise: Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance

This goes on top of all other treatments, and doesn’t pil like some other moisturisers do if you layer them. It smooths fine lines and helps prevent moisture loss that happens so often in the winter – another reason it’s a perfect part of a calming winter skincare routine.
Night Time Lip Treatment: Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment

So much more than just a lip balm, this lip treatment helps soothe the chapped lips winter brings and restore lip volume.
It has a precision cool tip for removing fine lines, laughter lines and vertical lines that form in the nasolabial folds.

I’ve found it to be perfectly plumping and I’m hoping it’ll stave off the need for any non-surgical tweaks for another year or two.
After trying this for a few weeks I’ve found that my skin is the best it’s been for many winters. I haven’t had any of my cold weather concerns and I can even go out without foundation now. Score!
