Having a baby is one of the most exciting things you can do. Trust me, I’ve had three, and it never loses its shine! Those later stages of pregnancy start to wear you out during a time you’re hoping to get ready for your new arrival. This can lead to putting off buying things you need or making plans for when baby is here.
This is why a baby shower is such a good idea. A baby shower will help prepare for your new addition to the family and give you chance to celebrate before you’re knee-deep in nappies. As with all celebrations, all gifts are welcome but not expected. However, if you wanted to get mum-to-be something extra special and extra useful, then you’ll love this list.
Baby Shower Gifts You’ll Be Grateful for When You’re Pregnant
As a mother-of-three, I feel I’m now an authority on all things baby and pregnancy, meaning I can pass on my knowledge to all the gift-givers out there about what pregnant ladies really want! (If we’re being honest here, pregnant ladies actually want a comfy night’s sleep, but money can’t buy that, so this list will have to do.)
Organic cotton baby clothes
The rumours are true and new babies create a lot of mess! They tend to need several outfit changes every day (and night). I think you can’t beat organic cotton baby clothes. It’s premium material for baby clothing that’s soft against the little one’s skin and doesn’t seem to stain too easily. If you’re not sure on what clothing style mum prefers, then you can’t go wrong with a newborn baby sleepsuit.
Invest in UV sterilisers
The discovery of UV nursery sterilisers for me was a huge gamechanger. I used to be constantly washing, rinsing and steam sterilising everything. Then when I had baby number three, I found out about UV sterilisers. They’re basically a portable pod that uses UV to get rid of germs. I have a little one that does dummies and bottle teats and a bigger one that fits things like teddy bears, chew toys and even your iPad in!
A voucher for a newborn photoshoot
Those newborn days are all a blur and they’re gone before you can utter the phrase “placenta encapsulation”. Taking photos of newborns yourself is pretty tricky. They’re all floppy, so can’t pose them yourself and for whatever reason, if you hold them with one arm and take your photo with your free hand, they always look like a grumpy old man! Preserve the memories of these early days with a newborn photoshoot. Trust me, the parents will thank you!
Lots of nappies
Babies get through nappies like nobody’s business, so it makes sense that mum-to-be should stock up. Do your research on the family’s preferences so you don’t buy disposables when mum and dad would prefer cloth. Cloth nappies are available in grow-with-me sizes, meaning they fit from birth and grow with baby. If you’re unsure of which size disposable to go with, I find you can’t go wrong with size 3 newborn. I have only had gigantic babies (biggest 10lb 9, smallest 9lb 2) and have found that you can’t do a lot with small nappies, but baby will always grow into a bigger size if you overshoot it!
