Transform Your Garden into a Glorious Living Space

AD

After spending all this time at home, you’re probably sick of the sight of the same four walls. Why not make the most of the good weather, and expand your living space outdoors?

We could all do with a little extra fresh air, and an outdoor living area can do just that. There’s no need to stick to the confines of your house, when you can sprawl out in the garden – whatever its size.

These would be my top tips for making your garden into a glorious living space.

Invest in some comfy outdoor furniture

You can’t feasibly have an outdoor living space if you have nowhere to sit. Basic furniture is a start, but unlikely to be all that comfy. If you plan to spend a lot of time out there, hold off and save up for something good quality that will be comfortable but also last well. Luxury rattan furniture is a great place to start because it looks good, will last ages and is super comfy too.

Build a garden structure

Garden structures come in all shapes and sizes. From an open-fron teepee design that you can sit under to shelter the wind, to and upscale summer house – the options are endless.

I would tend to stay away from a traditional shed or garage if you’re hoping to spend time in the building, as these are known for being very dark structures. Lots of natural light is the key to a functional garden room, so choose something with lots of windows. If you’re on a budget, a self-build summer house is the ideal option.

Don’t forget to add a window box to all visible windows to really elevate the space (from the outside and inside)!

Invest in a toasty fire pit

Fire pits aren’t just for Love Island drama or woodland huts, they’re perfect for relaxing time in your garden. Light it after dark to help keep you toasty outdoors, buy a combi one that turns into a barbecue for when you have friends over. They look the part, smell divine, and are perfect for toasting marshmallows on!

Consider your flooring options

Setting up your seating area is just one of the things that needs doing in a garden living space. Your flooring options also need to be considered. Most gardens will have some paving already. If this is what you’re working with, consider getting an outdoor rug to help finish the look. If your garden consists of only grass, that’s fine too, but you might want to add a different surface. Decking is a popular choice, especially in houses where DIY fans live.

Building your own decking can save a pretty penny. However, if you’re happy to pay someone to add different flooring to your garden, you might prefer a paved patio instead. My advice would be to get on Pinterest and check out which options you think look best, then work out if you can afford it.

Decorate with plants

What’s the point of being outside if you’re not surrounded with greenery? Consider planting bushes and flowers around the edge of your garden to bring more nature to your property. If your garden isn’t really big enough, or perhaps you don’t want to plant things because you rent, potted plants look just as good. Another benefit of potted plants is that you can move them around. That way, if you changed the garden living space location to a different point outdoors, your plants can come with you and always surround you!
