Introducing Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense (SPF)

AD – Gifted product

Just before Orlaith was born and the lockdown was announced, I was sent some Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense to review. It’s a physical SPF and was created to be worn everyday, either under your makeup or with a fresh face.

Introducing Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense (SPF)

Sadly there was a period where I didn’t leave the house. At all. Not even to go in the garden, so I couldn’t give it the test it deserved and since I like to give things a thorough go before I write about them, I’m a little late to the party and the product has been out a couple of months now.

What is Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense?

Invisible Physical Defense from Dermalogica is a broad spectrum SPF sunscreen that works as a physical SPF. There are two types of SPF skincare: physical and chemical. Physical SPF is exactly what it sounds like, it creates a physical barrier on your skin to protect it from the sun.

Chemical SPF turns the UV into heat, which it then absorbs. This isn’t always a good option for sensitive skin.

How Does the Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense Work?

This SPF should be applied after your morning skincare routine, before you apply makeup. It’s designed to sit on top of your skin as a protective later that reflects rays (even under makeup).

It does need working in, and might take longer than normal creams to this because of it’s texture. Once it’s been applied properly it should appear transparent before you apply makeup. It’s not designed as a moisturiser or for any other function, so moisturise before applying and remember you’ll still need primer under your foundation.

The formula helps protect against UVA, UVB and HEV lights. UVA light is always present, even on dull, cloudy days and can help cause damage to your slin. UVB light is also present all year round but can cause more damage than UVA. It’s also stronger in sunnier countries. HEV light is basically the blue light emitted by the sun and lots of electronic devices (it stands for High-Energy Visible light) and can affect how well you sleep. If you’re exposed to a lot of HEV light, you might not sleep so well as your body might not produce enough melatonin.

Dermalogica Invisble Physical Defense Review – My Thoughts

I think this is a fab SPF product. Up until last year I didn’t really make much of an effort to use SPF daily (naughty, I know). I’d tried various products but some were better than others, some smelled weird and some had greasy textures. This one is perfect. It’s truly invisible so there is no white residue and the texture means you can apply makeup over the top, no problem.

I’ve been using it every day that I’ve been outside, and when things return to normal, I’ll be wearing it daily – even when it’s overcast!

I’m really pleased with this product and I think it’s earned a permanent place in my makeup bag.
