Reusable period products are a hot topic right now – and for good reason! I was delighted to be given the chance to do this WUKA reusable pads review along with the WUKA period pants review as I’ve found both of these products a total game-changer!

Previously, I’ve always used disposable period products. I didn’t know a lot about the reusable options and I thought that thanks to my plus size frame and heavy periods completely ruled me out. In the early days of reusable products, that might have been the case, but thankfully WUKA (it stands for Wake Up and Kick Ass) have revolutionised the world of reusable period products.
WUKA Reusable Pads Review
These reusable pads are new additions to the WUKA reusable period product range. Available on the WUKA website, these sustainable, reusable period pads are bound to be a hit! How do you use WUKA reusable pads?
The WUKA reusable pads come with wings that have popper on them to secure them. They have writing on the back, which is the side you put facing down in your underwear, then you clip the poppers together to help hold it in place. They’re designed for a medium flow and you would expect to change them as frequently as a disposable pad. You can wear these pads for up to eight hours at a time (depending on your flow).
The pads come with a wash bag which can be popped into your handbag for when you’re out and about. That way, when you need to change your pad, you can store the used pad in your wash bag until you get home.
How do WUKA reusable pads feel?
The reusable pads are lovely and soft. I’m not quite sure what I was expecting, but they feel fresh and just like regular underwear against my skin. Disposable products can feel plasticky and bunch up with wear, which was not my experience with these reusables. They’re very flexible and move easily with your body, whether you’re running around after the kids or rolling over in bed.
An interesting point to make is that they didn’t feel wet. I expected that because they’re made of fabric, I’d feel like if I’d leaked onto normal underwear, but that wasn’t the case.
Do WUKA reusable pads smell?
A question we’ve all wondered before making the switch to reusables – but no, WUKA reusable pads don’t smell (at least, not in my experience.) The gusset is super absorbent, which not only keeps you feeling dry, it makes sure no odour is present.
Caring for your WUKA reusable pads
Once worn, your pads should be stored in the wash bag ready to be washed. It’s advised that you wash them in the wash bag provided to help prolong the life of your pads. They should also be washed at 30-40 degrees without fabric softener.
To dry your pads, either hang them on the line to air dry them, or lay them on the radiator. They can’t be tumble dried or ironed (I don’t know anyone who would get the urge to iron their sanitary towels, to be fair).

As I mentioned above, I assumed that being plus size meant I couldn’t use period pants. Thankfully WUKA period pants cater for a wide range of size from 2XS to 6XL and the pads are a one-size-fits-all option if you’re not sure. I was really excited to try period pants in my size.
What are WUKA pants?
WUKA period pants are underwear that’s designed to be worn on your period and absorb the menstrual flow. Rather than using other period products such as pads, tampons or menstrual cups, these pants have a super absorbent gusset for you to bleed directly into. They are leakproof and designed specifically for period blood. They come in all different styles and sizes as well as different absorbencies depending on your flow.
How do you use WUKA period pants?
These pants are designed to be worn like normal underwear on the days of your period, without the need for extra sanitary products. You can wear them for up to 8 hours or all night long. I prefer to wear them all night and then wash them in the morning so they’re ready for the next night. When I used disposable products, I would often leak, and so far, I haven’t even come close to leaking in these.
What are WUKA pants made from?
WUKA period pants are made from a super soft organic cotton. They’re lovely and soft against my skin and very flexible – allowing me to move without the risk of leaks. The pants are lined with COOLMAX® technology which is really absorbent and stops any leaks and odours.
The absorbent lining covers all of the gusset and come quite high up the back and the front of the pants (which is ideal for keeping leaks away).
Do WUKA period pants work for heavy periods?
WUKA make period pants in a variety of absorbencies to accommodate different flows. While the pants I tried are for a medium flow, you can choose from heavy, medium and light flow pants.
What is the WUKA sizing like?
The WUKA sizing is very accurate. I checked the size guide before ordering mine and when they came, they fit fine. I went for 4XL which the site says is 20-22. I normally go for slightly bigger pants for my period due to bloating, so while I’m normally an 18-20, I’ve always bought and worm size 20 (or 20-22) to use on days I’m menstruating.
Overall Opinion on WUKA Reusable Period Products
After having tried both WUKA period pants and reusable pads, I’m a convert! They’re really easy to both use and care for, and they’ll save me money on disposable period products. I think I need to buy a few more items in the range to expand my stock and ensure I’ve got enough time to wash everything before I have to wear it again.
