Thanks to confusing and ever-changing travel traffic light policies and restrictions still existing in countries all over the world, going on holiday overseas is not really an appealing option to many of us. However, while we are itching to get away on holiday and have some much needed rest and recuperation, staycations in the UK are many people’s next best option. However, as we all know, there is nothing quite as unpredictable as the UK weather, and so when it comes to packing your suitcase for a few days away in this country, you may be struggling to know what to pack.
But never fear! We have done all the hard work for you and made this ultimate guide to everything you need for your UK summer staycation along with what to wear, the accessories you need, and how to look stylish even in wellies. I know- we are geniuses! So with that in mind, sit back and enjoy your time away while looking effortlessly stylish!

Maxi dresses
Even though we can all be guilty of being pretty harsh on the UK weather, we also know that some days in the summer are absolute scorchers. So it is important that you don’t assume the worst when packing your suitcase. If you pack only knitwear and waterproofs then you may find yourself stuck for options on a hot sunny day. Therefore, we recommend that you pack at least one maxi dress ready for your staycation. They are perfect to wear while away as they are super comfortable, cool, and the ultimate summer attire no matter where in the world you are. Maxi dresses are also perfect for UK staycations as they can pass for dressy dresses if you have plans in the evening.
Also, if the worst does happen and you get some rainy weather while you are away, maxi dresses can be paired with wellies to create that chic glastonbury-esque look. Perfect!
Don’t forget a jacket
It is always good advice to have a look at the weather forecast before going away somewhere in the UK, but even if it tells you that you are going to have many hot summer days to enjoy, you shouldn’t forget to pack a jacket. Even the nicest days in this country can turn quite chilly by the evening and you don’t want to be caught out and about without a jacket. So whether you are a denim jacket or silk shawl kinda person, make sure you have something to keep your shoulders warm once the sun goes down.
Don’t forget accessories
Similarly to any outfit for any occasion you can transform it completely by adding the right accessories. From a straw hat to brighten up a casual summer dress to a silk scarf to keep you warm while still keeping your outfit stylish. We also recommend that you pack some jewellery in your case too. For example, a pair of hoops are the perfect pairing alongside patterned dresses. Not only will this make you feel great while you are away, but it will also make it even easier to dress up or down according to the occasion or dress code. Accessories also include the type of bag you are going to take away with you. From a classic summer staple, such as a straw beach bag, to a canvas rucksack to carry everything you need when exploring a new place, having the right bag can really pull an outfit together and offer added convenience.
Make sure you have footwear for every occasion
There is no easy way round this when it comes to a UK staycation, you are going to need to take a few different pairs of footwear. If you were heading to a beach holiday in Spain then you would probably get away with just taking a pair of sandals and flip flops. But the UK weather is too temperamental for that so it is important that you aren’t caught short. Therefore, we recommend that you pack a pair of comfy sandals, some shoes that are good for walking, as well as a pair that you can wear in the evening. But if you are heading somewhere rural then wellies should also be on your list of footwear to take with you.
While a summer staycation in the UK may not have been the holiday you had originally hoped for this year, with amazing sights and fun places to visit, and with all the right things in your suitcase, you will have an amazing time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
