Modern technology is undeniably a wonderful addition to society; we’d be lost without it. Even our children have become hooked and often spend ours on end hidden behind their phone screen. Although this can be quite concerning for parents, you should also remember that technology can be used in a variety of positive ways, like helping them with their home learning. This has certainly been the case throughout lockdown, as schools have been forced to upload their lessons to the Internet for their students to work through. I have teamed up with a junior school in Surrey to offer parents some advice on how to use technology as a positive influence on their child’s learning.
Technology can offer a more accommodating learning experience than a normal lesson in a classroom environment. This is because pupils are able to take their time if they need too and essentially move at their own pace, rather than being swept along with the rest of the students. If they find the work too easy, they can search for more challenging learning materials online. What’s more, they can use learning resources that suit their learning style. For instance, if they are auditory learners, they might find some podcasts to listen to online. Other students might prefer to watch YouTube videos or play educational games.
Another benefit of technology with regards to your child’s education is the fact that it allows you to communicate with the teachers as much as you need to, and also do your own research into the curriculum so that you can help your child in your own way. Before the Internet, parents had to rely on verbal communication with the teachers, which isn’t always possible, so being able to email the school is very handy when you want to deal with any problems.
