Treads school shoes are known for their sturdiness and longevity. So much so, that they have the reputation amongst parents everywhere for being indestructible. As the mother of an ebullient boy in foundation stage, who had already destroyed his first pair of shoes by Christmas, I was excited to be given the opportunity to try some of Treads infamous school shoes.
I already knew that treads shoes would be good, but I still couldn’t wait to put them to the test with my lively son. When you hear the rumours of indestructibility and realise the brand is so confident they’ll even give a 12 month guarantee, it really makes you keen to try them!

Treads School Shoes Review
After browsing the site with my son, we chose the Madrid model of shoes as his favourite pair. They’re easy to put on as they have hook and loop fastening instead of laces, and they really look the part.
They’re incredibly smart, with thick soles and feel generally hard-wearing.
These shoes are designed with active, adventurous children in mind. Children like my son, who run fast, climb and like to jump off things when they think you’re not looking. They’re fit for running around the playground in, playing in the park, and even great for jumping in muddy puddles!
What’s the fit like in Treads school shoes?
Treads offer something called Dual Fit Technology, which means you can adjust the width of the shoe for comfort.
The instructions are simple – if the shoe feels a little snug, remove the orange layer to give greater width.
They arrive with a back top layer (which is a shock absorbing EVA insole), the removable orange layer, and even have a removable foot bed which gives more depth and enables use of orthotics.
We were happy with the standard fit the shoes arrived with, we only took out the components because we’re nosy!
What are the soles like?
Treads soles look pretty indestructible. They’re quite chunky and are both non-slip and non-marking. We’ve had our shoes a couple of months now and they show no evidence of wear and tear.
How wearable are they?
Some hard-wearing shoes can feel clunky and impractical like workman’s boots. Since Greg has been wearing his Treads, he’s talked about how comfy they are, his feet don’t seem to get sweaty and he can even run super-fast in them! Both me and him are really happy with them and think they’re fantastic.
