Tan through swimwear is something I always look for when travelling abroad. Back in the days before I had children, I’d be carefully searching for a tan through bikini so that I didn’t have compromise my tan or deal with any weird tan lines caused by what I was wearing.
A few years have passed since those days, and while I’m not inclined to wear a bikini any more, I do still try to buy tan through swimwear. It was during my search that I found this perfect swimsuit from the TanThrough line.
It may look like a regular swimsuit with a pretty design, but it secretly has so much more going on. It has under cup stitching, to give me a bit of shape in the general bust area, it comes in a ‘tall torso’ size to fit my 5 ft 9 frame, and most importantly, it is tan through swimwear. It’s everything I need to give me back my body confidence since I’ve had children.
I like to be a bit more covered up since motherhood has changed how I look, but never want to deal with the white bits that wearing more fabric brings. The swimwear in the picture above allows you to tan through the fabric so that you’re not left with any unsightly tan lines.
Obviously I use sunscreen when I spend time in the sun, and this tan through swimwear allows about half of the sun’s rays through it, meaning the area under my swimsuit tans at roughly the same rate as my exposed skin. Perfect!

This is the sort of thing I normally think of when I hear ‘tan through swimwear’, so it was nice to see that there were choices with more fabric like the one above too. I think the fabric for this bikini is gorgeous and this would have definitely been my first choice if I was filling my suitcase a year or two ago.

I think I probably need to invest in all three of these swimsuits and book a lot more sunny getaways!
In case you were wondering how it’s possible to wear even a full swim suit and still tan through it, here’s the sciencey product info bit:
- All of the swimwear pictured is made of a high quality fabric called Microsol-V (made in the USA).
- The fabric is breathable, so as well as letting airflow through, it allows 50% of the sun’s rays through too.
- This also makes it lightweight and helps it wick moisture away from your skin (and it dries fast too!).
- The material is so light, it means you can probably fit that extra pair of shoes in your case!
