While the pandemic caused massive upheaval to everybody around the world, it also showed businesses that remote working was a huge possibility. This then opens the door to better work life balance and people who are far less burned out than the other way before. The problem is that not everybody can be productive one now working from home and that usually due to a lack of support. If you want your employees to work from home, or they want to work for you from home, it’s a good idea to keep them motivated and happy and that means putting the right things in place to ensure that everybody can be productive.
From choosing to ensure that you have the right IT support systems in place for when people go remote so you can continue to share information, so making sure that you supplied them with the right desks and chairs so that they can work comfortably, if you want to work your people from home these are six things that you need to know. It can be tough to tend to the personal place where you relax to get some work done, but working from home could be the best thing for your business and you need to leave by example. Here are the things that you really do need to be able to work from home and show off that you can do it.

- You need a dedicated workspace. There is nothing good and nothing comfortable about working from your lap on the sofa. Not only will you damage your back doing that, it will show you that you may have more trouble concentrating if you don’t have a workspace dedicated just for you. You don’t need to have a full blown office, but you do need to know exactly where your things are located and how you can keep up with all of your team. If you want to remain productive and feel good about what you’re doing and where you are working, then make sure you have a desk set up and ready to go. you should have the right ergonomic desk and chair to work from and some great lighting to help you to see. Don’t just rely on the light from the back screen of your laptop – you need more than that.
- You need a great Internet connection. What is the point in working from home if you cannot connect without an internet connection? You need that connection to be working properly. The first component of ensuring this is always the case is to have your own dedicated space to work in. If you’re travelling around whilst working remotely, ensuring you stay in good quality Short term rentals in Turin (or those elsewhere) ensures that you’ll be able to connect to a router and maintain access. If you’re unsure how to get everything set up optimally, you don’t need to have your own IT team on site at home, not when you can invest in a good outsourced team to help you. This way, they can log into your computer remotely and ensure that you are not dealing with any outages that could put business interruption at risk.
- A way to connect. Working from home has its downsides and the biggest one is the lack of social contact. You are no longer sitting shoulder to shoulder with your colleagues, because they are also working from home. This means that you need to make sure that you can communicate and connect with other people without having them sitting next to you. Download the right tools, such as Microsoft teams or Skype. You could even start using Slack or Google chat or Trello to help you all to manage everything you need to ensure that you are still able to collaborate on your projects.
- You need a great routine. It’s always fun to work in your pyjamas but soon enough you find that you’re blending your work day with your personal time. To avoid this from happening you need to make sure that you have a good routine in place and that you are not spending your time working around the clock. Having a good routine is going to keep you balanced and that’s exactly what you should be achieving when you work from home
- A good chair. We talked about making sure you have the right working environment when you’re at home, but you also need a darn good chair to keep you comfortable. You need someone to be able to sit and have a conversation when you’re on the phone and you need something that’s going to keep your back upright and in a good posture.
- You need five minutes. When you are working from home you need to take just five minutes each day to declutter and ensure that you can work in a clean and safe environment.
