Power of Positive – How Positivity Has Kept Me Going

AD

Having a chronic skin condition can really get you down. Constant discomfort over a long period of time can certainly dampen even the happiest life. On a good day it can be inconvenient, but on a bad day it can cause a fair bit of pain. The only way to get by is to harness the power of positivity.

Mastering a positive outlook takes time. I know as much as anyone that if you’re in a funk, shifting your mindset needs a bit of work. You can’t just decide to be positive and expect your life to immediately change.

For me, the shift came when I tried to sprinkle a little positivity over all aspects of my life.

Adding a sprinkle of positivity

Often, when you’re suffering with a dry skin condition, the feeling just becomes a part of life. You can’t forget about it because it makes itself known, and you tend to take for granted the times it’s not around, I suffer with eczema, and it’s always been a part of my life. It is mostly under control these days, and when I get a flare up, I’m able to relieve the symptoms by using Epaderm. It heals and returns on a cycle I can’t predict, so I’m pretty used to living with it now.

As a naturally positive person, I’ve been able to use positivity to help me cope, and I believe this will work for almost anyone. The key is to build up your positive thoughts like stepping-stones, until eventually you’ve got a positive path to walk along. Don’t try and focus unnatural positivity on your skin condition. Your life is about more than your skin, so why put all your efforts into one area?

Getting started with positive thoughts

I find it easiest to start with any thoughts that dominate my mind. Sometimes that can be things like how much life admin I need to do, other times it can be about my eczema, or even already happy things like upcoming birthdays and celebrations.

Positive thoughts shouldn’t be hard work, so it’s better to focus on what you’re already thinking about.

For example, if things like life admin are taking up thought space, try and put a positive spin on it. Tell yourself that once you’ve caught up, you can spend time doing a hobby or relaxing. Or, if you prefer to be more in the moment, think about how lucky you are to have a lifestyle that creates these tasks.

Perhaps you have a big family and need to spend time shopping and meal planning. The thought to concentrate on there should be how wonderful you are for taking good care of your family, and how lucky you are to have a family like yours.

If your thoughts are already on happy occasions, take a moment to be mindful of how happy what you’re thinking about makes you, and count the other things you’re looking forward to.

Turning The Positivity onto Your Skin

Once you’re in the habit of living with a positive outlook, it shouldn’t be too hard to use those tricks and turn thoughts about your skin condition into positive ones. The most common gripe I have with my eczema is that I can go to bed with no eczema, and wake up with cracked and dry hands. Just when I think it’s under control it crops up again and can be quite painful.

For a condition like mine – one that comes and goes – I’ve always got the future to look forward to. I know it’s not forever and I know in the near future it will have more or less disappeared again. So my first positive thought is always that it won’t last. Another positive is that I’ve found Epaderm.

Before Epaderm, nothing soothed my skin as instantly. On top of that, it treats the eczema like nothing I’ve used before, and I feel lucky to have found it. If it wasn’t for the pharmacy assistant recommending it because she used it personally, I’m not sure I would have tried it. I had become a little disillusioned with eczema remedies at that time as nothing else I had tried had worked.

Positivity around your dry skin conditions is always helped by embracing your skin. Deciding not to hide my eczema was one of the best things I did for keeping a positive outlook, and getting skin confidence as a whole.

If you can make the little changes to have a little more positivity in your life, I guarantee you’ll soon have a lot more, and that will be true of skin positivity too.

  1. Epiderm sounds great for your skin! I had awful eczema as a child, and thankfully it’s a lot better now. But in the summer I get an awful heat rash when it’s even the tiniest bit warmer. I hope Epiderm has been helping you x
