How To Take The Stress Out Of Experimenting With Your Style

Style experimentation is supposed to be fun! It’s supposed to be something you can enjoy and do what you want with, which is why so many people find fashion such a great hobby. But even knowing that you’re meant to be able to express yourself through style, and every person has their own sense of it, experimenting to find it can be a bit stressful!

It sounds like the antithesis, but if you’re worried about finding ‘your look’ and making sure it’s good, fashion carries a sense of anxiety with it. But no longer! If you want to experiment with your wardrobe and you want it to be fun, we’ve got a few tips that’ll help.

Understand What Colours Work for You

What’s your favourite colour? That’s usually a good place to start! When you love a colour, you’re going to see it much more favourably when you’ve got it on. Even if you don’t own anything else in that colour yet, as long as you love it, you can give it a go and see how it makes you feel.

And remember, shades of black and white work for everyone. They’re pretty neutral in the grand scheme of things, which makes them great starter colours for dipping into different styles.

Someone who loves the pastel look, for example, can safely move into streetwear and grunge by approaching them in monotone and then expanding out from there.

Buy Accessories That Work with Multiple Outfits

Some accessories can only be worn when you’ve got the right outfit on. These aren’t the kind of accessories you want to invest in here! You want to buy items of jewellery, bags, shoes, scarves, hats, and everything in between that can be used with lots of different clothing. Otherwise you’ll just invest in pieces that are barely worn and in the end weren’t worth the money!

But what counts as a versatile accessory? We always think a good set of titanium earrings is a safe bet, seeing as they can be popped into your ears no matter the time or day or where you’re going. They’re subtle yet sparkly and can add a touch of elegance to anything you’ve got on.

Think in terms like this for all the other accessories you’re interested in trying out. What would add to an outfit and never take away from it, no matter what it is you’re wearing? The more outfits you can match your earrings or shoes with, the better for your style experimentation.

Get Used to Style Terms

When you know what a style guru is talking about, you’re going to be able to pick out those elements no matter where you’re shopping or what for. That means it’s time to pick up a book on the history of fashion and do your research. At the very least, make sure you know your cami from your tank top!

Feel quite stressed about finding your style? Approach it with these points in mind.
