Buying school shoes online is all well and good, but how do you get the right size? I hear you ask! Measuring a child’s shoe size at home is easy – you just need the right equipment!
The lovely people over at Treads shoes have sent me a measuring gauge to show you how it’s done. They have also donated an extra one for a lucky reader out there to win. If you’ve been following this site a while, you’ll know we love Treads and their indestructible school shoes! We’ve had the shoes pictured for a few months, and as you can see, they’re still in good nick!
How to Measure You Child’s Shoe Size a Home
First of all, you need the right equipment. You can buy your own measuring gauge directly from the Treads site, or try your luck at winning one below.
Step 1 – Measure Length
Put the measuring gauge on a hard floor surface and get your child to place their foot in the gauge with their heel pressed firmly against the lip at the back.
Next, move the slider down the gauge until it gently rests against the longest toe.
Note down the number in the viewing window and repeat for the other foot. Simple!
Step 2 – Measure Width
Feel for the bumps on either side of the foot, these are the toe joints and are likely to be around the widest part of the foot. Slip the measuring tape over the widest part of the foot and and pull it so it’s snug but not tight.
The number in the window is likely to be in a slant, which is fine, just take the measurement from where the black arrows are. Note down the number and repeat for the other foot.
