One of the greatest joys of adulthood is the day you get a new vacuum. It’s so satisfying to get a good, deep clean on your carpets. Nothing makes housework enjoyable like bringing a brand new Hoover into your home.
As a mum of three, you might imagine my carpets get a lot action, as done my vacuum. I have a toddler who seems to just explode every meal into crumbs rather than actually consume it, and a young child who likes to get messy. While the teen is relatively mess-free, both her and I seem to shed long hairs everywhere we go. We’re a household that needs a good vacuum.

I’ve been after a good compact vacuum for a while. I found after having my youngest daughter a couple of years ago, the muscles in my stomach find it difficult to lug a heavy full-size vacuum up and down stairs. It’s especially difficult for me to vacuum the stairs altogether, so the opportunity to use a lightweight cordless vacuum that does the job of a corded one was very welcome.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this vacuum so I was eager to initiate it into my housework routine.

The box itself is slimline, lightweight and well packed. It only has a tiny bit of plastic packaging and all the cardboard went in my carboard recycling bin, which is brilliant. I love it when brands are mindful of their packaging.
When you open the box, you’re met with the instructions booklet, a box containing an extra filter and the charger within a layer of card. Then under the layer of card is the vacuum and all the attachments.
The Hoover H-Free 500 cordless vacuum cleaner box contains the vacuum itself, the bin, the attachments, charger, wall mount, extra filter and instructions. Everything you would expect to come with the vacuum is in the box, there’s no nasty surprises where you need to buy extra components.

The attachments that come with this model of Hoover are the crevice tool, dusting brush head, large dusting tool, and upholstery tool. Each serves their own purpose meaning you’re not losing out on anything by opting for a compact vacuum.
How Heavy is the Hoover H-Free 500 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner?
The vacuum is surprisingly lightweight. As mentioned above, it hurts my stomach when I lift anything with a bit of weight to it, but the Hoover H-Free 500 cordless vacuum cleaner is easy to lift, carry around and bring up and down stairs. The weight is listed as 2.2kg and it feels very light to use.
Does it work well on multiple surfaces?
My downstairs is a mixture of carpets and laminate flooring, and upstairs has carpet and lino in the bathroom. I’ve found this vacuum really good on every surface. There’s a carpet button that turns on and off the rotation of the dust brush (it should rotate on carpet and not on hard floors).
The attachments also work well on soft furnishings and cobweb grabbing on the ceiling in those hard-to-reach areas.
Is the Hoover H-Free 500 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner as good as a corded vacuum?
I would say it’s as good as a corded vacuum. There’s a turbo button that adds to the suction, so if you find your kids like to tread crumbs into the carpet like mine do, then the turbo will definitely get them all up.
Is the Battery Good?
I’ve found the battery to last really well. It doesn’t take too long to charge but it holds it’s charge well. If you use the turbo mode then it will run out faster, but it lasts several days of quick ‘one-over’ type vacuuming.
Would you recommend the Hoover H-Free 500 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner?
Absolutely! I love this model of Hoover and I think everyone should have one! I’ve just been talking my mum into getting one for doing her stairs. I use it every day and I even used to do a carpet deep clean with the powder cleaner you scrub into your carpet pile then vacuum up.
This is a fantastic vacuum and I would definitely recommend you treat yourself to one.
