Searching for the best mattress for pregnancy can be a difficult task. It seems like everywhere you look, someone is trying to flog you a mattress, when what you really want is someone to recommend a pregnancy mattress (preferably a pregnant person).
I’m currently pregnant – halfway through, with a big bump and the beginnings of SPD. This is my third child and although I might not be an expert parent yet, I am an expert in getting comfy during this uncomfy time in my life!
About a year ago, we upgraded our mattress to a Leesa Mattress, and bedtime has never been so comfy! It’s a mattress without springs made of some sort of hybrid foam, meaning it hugs your body’s contours for a sumptuous night’s sleep.
Why I think Leesa is a great pregnancy mattress
During previous pregnancies, sleeping in previous beds has been difficult (or should I say not sleeping?). I’m a front-sleeper, which becomes impossible when you reach a certain stage of pregnancy and forces you to pick a different position. Once you’ve got a biggish bump going on, you can’t sleep on your back either, making it so much harder to get comfy.
Generally, the only safe sleeping position is on your side (apparently left side is best?), which can feel extra uncomfortable if you have SPD pain in your hip/pelvis area.
So far, I’ve been finding it easy to get comfy on my Leesa Mattress because you sort of sink in but it supports you too. I’ve also got a long pillow that’s for pregnancy and breastfeeding. I mould it round my body and but one end between my knees to help alleviate some of the pressure.
If you’re thinking “that’s all well and good but maybe you’re just not suffering yet or your pains aren’t as bad this time”, that would be a good point, if I hadn’t tried out other beds. We’ve just got back from holidaying in a cottage where a recurring theme in the reviews was how comfy the bed was. I couldn’t get comfy in the bed, so didn’t get much sleep. I even took my special pillow, but it just didn’t help!

Obviously I can’t promise you’ll sleep better, but as a pregnant person who has done this before, I think a personal recommendation is always nicer than something written by a marketing expert. I’m really pleased with my mattress and often recommend it to my real-life friends too, and so does my husband!
