Fun Ways to Incorporate Colour into Your Home Interiors

Recent trends have seen interior design take a dramatic turn for the monochrome in recent years. First it was the clean minimalist lines of blacks and whites, then came the shades of grey inspired by interiors influencer Mrs Hinch.

While it looked like a greyscale home was here to stay, TikTok influencers injected colour into their homes in new fun ways. Now colour is back on trend, and it’s important to be inventive when it comes to introducing it to your home. You might want to go all out rainbow for a full interiors makeover, but small flashes of colour work really well too.

Fun Ways to Incorporate Colour into Your Home

I’m a huge fan of colour and I’ve just been waiting for the right DIY project to inspire me. After a few hours (more than I normally care to admit to) spent on TikTok and Pinterest, I’ve finally settled on my favourite ways to bring colour into my home décor.

Below are some fun ways to add colour into your home.

Neon Lights

Neon lights are an excellent way to add colour without the upheaval of painting and decorating. They can shine their colours down onto your living space, and revive even the flattest, blandest of colours. This is a great option if you rent and you’re banned from painting the walls anything other than magnolia. You could add neon strip lights around the room to brighten areas, or pick up a sign that’s a icon or phrase. For example, a rainbow neon sign in a children’s play room will give it some pizzazz, or your favourite phrase lit up in your kitchen can be a real mood booster.

Wall Decals

A wall decal is another renter-friendly way to bring colour into your home. Good quality decals shouldn’t mark your walls, rip your wallpaper or chip your paint. They’re a temporary fixture that make for handy accessories when you like to chop and change a lot, but don’t necessarily want to paint. One of the most popular decals I’ve seen is a false arch. People are putting them behind their headboards in their bedrooms, behind sofas in the lounge and hanging a mirror in the middle of them in their hallway. These arch decals come in all shapes, sizes and colours, and are pretty affordable if you don’t like to commit. You can always try a few out, then paint one on you wall when you’ve decided on a colour. You can alsso get spots and patterns that look great in a nursery.

Painted Accents

Painted accents are another TikTok favourite. People being forced to spend a lot of time at home saw a huge uptake in DIY projects. Where painting a whole room is a lot of work, painting door frames, skirting boards and dado rails is a comparatively quicker project. My favourite is a bright pink skirting board and door architrave against a plain white wall. It’s such a fun way to add a dash of colour without being too overpowering.

How do you prefer to add colour to your home?
