There’s no excuse for putting off those jobs you have been promising to do for the past 18 months. Summer is excellent for DIY for many reasons. The warm weather affords you a greater degree of freedom when completing any project.
First, you can make the most of the weather to casually peruse garden centres and outdoor markets for ideas and supplies. Second, outdoor projects such as painting the fence, planting new shrubs and cleaning the windows just got a lot easier. Just be sure to plan ahead, though, since we all know how quickly the weather can change.
Be God and Shape the Land
Your house is your castle, and your land is your world. If you are lucky enough to own some land out front or outback, then you might want to improve upon what’s already there. The humble backyard can become an oasis, and the front lawn a welcoming adornment in your neighbourhood. The most obvious job is tending to the garden, but many people opt for something a little more exotic these days.
Taking care of the garden is essential, but with some minor additions, the value of your house can be significantly increased, financially and personally. For example, a patio or decking can increase the value of your home by up to 10%. A considerable increase considering that they are relatively inexpensive. Do the Never-Ending Odd Jobs
When you own your home, it can seem like the small jobs never end. But it only feels like that because you put them off. Dodgy door handles, leaking taps and blown out light bulbs are perfect examples of the small jobs we all put off. But minor issues can lead to larger ones. For example, a leaking tap can cause extra dampness and mould, as well as adding hundreds to your water bill.
Finding time for small jobs is usually the issue. When you get home from work, you just want to relax or have family matters to attend to. But with the warmer weather here, some of the time you booked off for the summer holidays can be used to get off your butt and get those little jobs done. It’s also a fantastic feeling when you know the small matters are taken care of.

Smaller jobs aside, the good weather can be used to tackle some of the more pressing issues. For example, renovation jobs you have delayed or put off because of bad weather can now go ahead. Most of the time, these issues are out of your hands. Just as one simply does not walk into Mordor, you simply cannot install new roofing tiles in torrential rain and gale-force winds.
Therefore, you should try to make the most of the favourable weather and tend to extensive jobs. You will be able to set aside an area for workbenches, comprehensive tools, and any materials that need to be installed. This makes it possible to complete jobs that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to do. However, be sure to take precautions when out in the sun and always hydrate.
