Warm up on the inside
Never underestimate the power of a hot cuppa. Drinking a warm drink can help raise your core temperature, making you hot on the inside before warming you up on the outside. It’s like giving your body it’s own central heating system!
Cuddle up
Grab your kids, cats or husband and get cosy on the sofa. Huddling together is great insulation and everyone will be warmer than if they just sat on their own. It’s a lovely way to bond with your family (or your pets), and very handy for keeping those temperatures toasty!
Buy more textiles
Soft, fluffy textiles do so much more than make your house look homely. It’s no secret that houses with carpets and curtains stay warmer than those with wood floors and open window areas. Invest in some rugs for your cold floors, and put thick curtains up at undressed windows to he keep in the heat. For added cosiness, choose some super soft throws for your furniture that can double up as blankets for those extra chill nights.
Don’t heat an empty house
If you’re out all day, then don’t pay to heat an empty home. Set timers for the heating to come on before you get home – that way you’ll still get a warm greeting (but at a fraction of the cost). If you don’t go out to work, but don’t need to be home, consider spending some time out of the house and enjoying the warmth on someone else’s heating bill. Visit your friends, take a trip to the library or wrap up and spend a few hours in the fresh air. If you’re not home, your heating doesn’t need to be on.
