Weddings can seem like a daunting affair to plan. After all, your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. That alone brings enough pressure, without the added stress of knowing you have to throw a huge party for everyone you know, find the perfect dress, stick to a budget, plan the seating and find a DJ who won’t play all the songs you’ve ever hated.
A wedding is probably the biggest event you’ll plan (and you’ll be planning it for the best reason). It’s only natural that you want to bring your two families together to celebrate your love. Realistically, the day should be about what you and your partner want. Your families are there to celebrate this big life event with you and will enjoy whatever you do. This means you shouldn’t try and uphold traditions that you’re not interested in.
We didn’t have a church ceremony because neither of us are particularly religious. The church would have made a beautiful backdrop, but it wouldn’t have felt right for us. Instead we got married at a beautiful old building that had been turned into a hotel. It was extra special because it was exactly right for us.

Another option we would have loved (if our family were able to travel) would have been a vineyard wedding. We considered this because it would have been something different and beautiful backdrop to our special day. Ultimately, because so many family members don’t drive and aren’t up to travelling far (and the fact we would have had kids in tow) we had to choose something local.
Why You Might Want to Consider a Vineyard Wedding
A vineyard wedding really did catch our eye when we were looking at alternative options. A sandy beach didn’t feel like our style and we wanted something that would look amazing in the photographs. Below are just a few reasons why a vineyard wedding was something we were very tempted by:
It’s a Beautiful Setting
Vineyards are known for their beauty. Every photo taken will have a gorgeous backdrop of the surrounding area. Being out in nature with natural sunlight shining down on everyone will create photos that won’t be anything short of amazing.
You’ll Have a Large Exclusive Space
If you’ve got a large family who like to spread out (and have kids who like to run around), a wide open space for your wedding is the ideal setting. The space will be exclusively for you, meaning you’re unlikely to have any rogue customers wander your way like they might if you celebrated in a regular hotel.
The Wine List is a Thing Of Beauty
You can’t get married in a vineyard and not try some of the wine they offer. The wine list will be extensive, fancy and almost certainly delicious. If you have a family of wine lovers then a vineyard is the perfect place for your special day (based on the drinks menu alone).
Accommodation on Site
Generally speaking, there should be lots of rooms available for you to stay at the vineyard where you get married. Depending on how many guests you’re having, there might even be room for everyone! This means the celebrations don’t have to end early while people look for taxis, and you can all have breakfast together in the morning!
