How do my Child’s Lifestyle Choices Affect Their Education?

There are many factors that affect how well a child does in their education with one of the main ones being lifestyle. A poor diet, lack of sleep and exercise as well as distractions will man your child will struggle to concentrate and retain information in class. Stress levels also rise which means a reduction in the immune system. With that in mind, here is some information on how lifestyle choices affect education and what parents can do to help.

Breakfast. It is something that is heavily stressed by doctors and nutritionists and for good reason. A good breakfast means your child will start their day with a good set of fuel. Foods sugary in foods or avoiding breakfast entirely means your child will crash sooner and lack the energy throughout the morning which affects focus.

Exercise. Alongside physical, there are many mental benefits to exercising too. It is a great way to sharpen memory and attention whilst helping control stress levels. This helps with overall learning. If you feel your child is not getting enough exercise, look into extracurricular activities which tend to be provided by schools. These activities will ensure your child is moving around regularly and getting their heart rate up.

Sleep. A lack of sleep or even too much sleep can lead to poor concentration levels. It can actually weaken the part of the brain responsible for problem solving and planning. These skills are necessary when it comes to learning. Try and set a time for when your child sleep and wakes up. Do your best to keep them off their devices chatting to friends all night long or revising last minute as this can stimulate their brain and keep them up all night.

The bottom line is, lifestyle choices make every bit of difference when it comes to children and their education. Small changes here and there will mean your child will be able to concentrate well and make the most out of their school life.
