5 Screen Free Activities for Children

Post pandemic, it has become a running theme that most children rely on screens to entertain them. What once was exciting off screen is no longer appealing. Children seem to spend an unhealthy amount of time using their devices to play games, watch tv or talk to friends online. Whilst there are many benefits to using devices, it is important to encourage young ones to spend quality time off screen too. Below are 5 screen free activities for children advised by a private nursery in North London.

  1. Reading has so many benefits and is an activity that can be personalised to any child. There are thousands of books out there of different genres so finding something for a fussy child is a big possibility. You may end up finding your child has been a secret book worm this whole time!
  2. Children love to get messy with arts and crafts. Set up a station for painting and make it a regular occurrence. Not only will your child have something interesting to do but they’ll find that they want to paint more intricate designs the more confident they get.
  3. Learn a new language. With the world being such a globalised place, learning a second or third language can be beneficial in the long run. Teach your child a language you are already fluent in or enrol them onto lessons.
  4. Learn how to cook. There is no right age to teach children life skills. Get your child into the kitchen and allow them to make a recipe from start to finish with your help in areas that they might need it. Be sure to give them tons of credit at dinner time!
  5. Play with building blocks. All it needs is some attention and a ton of creativity. Give your child a goal such as making a house and watch them get stuck in. The creations they end up with are fascinating!
