7 Simple Tips For Creating A Fresh & Stress-Free Environment at Home

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, stress is an unfortunate fact of life. This is why our homes and the environments within them are so important, as they need to recharge and relax us after a stressful day. Many don’t think of their home as a stress-free oasis and that can be because home represents even more responsibility, or perhaps the home just isn’t set up for calm and relaxation. Today we are going to look at 7 simple tips to create a fresh and stress-free environment at home so that you have a safe space to shed the day and enjoy real rest.

  1. Organisation is key

Who doesn’t feel better when the bed has been made and benches are fresh and clean? It’s in our human nature to crave order, and an organised home is really going to go a long way in allowing you to unwind in a fresh and orderly environment. The simple addition of a shoe cabinet or cushion box can go a long way in removing the clutter, and it saves you having to pick up your things and do a tidy as soon as you walk in the door.

  1. Flow and layout

Do you have an easy flow in your home, or is your furniture not optimised to the best layout possible? This is an easy fix, and some experimentation will quickly show you what flow makes the most sense for the room and can foster a better atmosphere. You might not think something so insignificant as the layout of your home can contribute to stress, but these considerations signal comfort and calm so try and find the best arrangement for your home.

  1. Create a quiet zone

Every home is divided into zones but we do not prioritise space for simply relaxing and enjoying some quiet. Take a tour of your home and see if you can carve out space or a little nook in your home, and dedicate it to quiet reflection. You might wish to make this space comfortable with cushions, scents, soft lighting and some books to read or journal in. If you have this sacred space in your home it will take the pressure of trying to get some peace and quiet in the more communal areas of the home.

  1. Plants

Indoor plants can bring such a healthy and inviting atmosphere into your home, and it also connects you with nature and being outside. Many find the simple act of watering and pruning these plants to be cathartic, and can replace other home decor that is not serving you and your needs. If the idea of plant maintenance can cause more stress than it reduces, find the most low maintenance indoor plants available or throw a few fake plants into the mix for the aesthetic.

  1. Consider a stylist

Some people like to transform their homes periodically, and others either don’t have the time or interest in doing this themselves. This is where hiring a stylist can be a fantastic option, and you can work with them closely to establish the right brief and budget so they know exactly what you are after. There is no shame in getting some help in designing your sanctuary so get familiar with the stylists in your area.

  1. Scents

The scent is a powerful sense and one that we are not properly utilising at home. Most hotels have a signature scent and so do high-end brands or luxury spas, so why not introduce one to your home? If it takes you a while to wind down after a long day, this welcome scent might ease that transition to home and get you de-stressed quicker. Try and choose a mild scent as you are going to get very familiar with it at home.

  1. Comfort

You can get used to anything if you experience it long enough, which is why we tend to hold onto pillows longer than we should and don’t replace the couch throw that has holes in it. If you want to have a fresh and stress-free home, look at the softer features in your home and ask yourself if they are really providing comfort. This doesn’t just go for the living room, but also the bathroom touches, bedrooms features and all rooms in your home.
