This is an electric scooter with a difference. It has a skateboard-style truck to allow for both feet, and is inspired by the art of windsurfing, meaning you can weave and glide the concrete tide with your surf-like moves.
It’s suitable for ages 8+, probably because there is a certain skill-level necessary and you can’t always trust younger kids to stop when told. My daughter is a lanky 11-year-old (in year 6) and is still an alright height for it. She’s adventurous and outdoorsy (nothing like me) and couldn’t wait to try it!
Wave Catcher Electric Scooter Review
The Wave Catcher’s design differs from that of a traditional scooter. It allows for one-handed steering which helps recreate windsurfing-style moves.
My daughter is really enjoyed trying it and found the electric aspect very exciting! We’ve had this scooter a while now, and we held onto the scooter so her brother can play on it too. He’s 9 now, and even more adventurous that his sister so he loves it!

The handle is adjustable, which means it can grow with your child. My kids have a habit of shooting up so this is pretty handy. It’s a good height for 8-year-olds but I think it would last until the child is 12-13.
The Wave Catcher has a skateboard style truck which means your child can ride with both feet on it if they’re travelling at top speed. This can help with the surf-style movement.
The handle bar has two buttons, which if you press them when you’re travelling at a certain speed, they activate the electronic motor and give you a boost. The rounded shape allows for one-handed steering too!
The brake is on the back of the truck, making it easy to operate with your feet. I think this adds an extra element of safety.
Using the Wave Catcher
Before you can jump on and get riding, the Wave Catcher first needs to be assembled. If this is a present, you might want to get it out of the box, assemble and charge it so it can be used straight away by the recipient.
Attach it together, connect the battery and charge it for 12hrs before you use it. You’ll need to invest in some safety-wear to go with it, because it really does go fast!
You have to build up speed before the motor kicks in. Your child can reach up to 10mph, but there is a button to cap it at 5mph if your child is perhaps a little tentative.
Once the speed has built up, your child can press the buttons, put both feet on the truck and enjoy the surf-like motions.

It does take a little bit of practice to get confident using the Wave Catcher. My daughter really loves hers, this is her first time using it (it’s just a short video but you can see it in action).
What we Think of The Wave Catcher
We love the Wave Catcher! It’s helped keep her entertained outside and means family walks are a bit more interesting for her. Emma loves going fast on her wave catcher, and gliding by on the skateboard-like truck.
It’s great investment that will last a while and Greg can’t wait to grow into it. If you’re looking for an electric scooter they won’t get bored of, then seriously consider getting a Wave Catcher.
