1. Date
You might be tempted to hold a celebration on your child’s actual birthday even if it’s the middle of the week especially if he/she is homeschooled and you work from home. However, you should consider postponing it until the weekend because it means that you get to relax and enjoy the day without the need to worry about work. It also means that you can stretch out the celebrations.
2. Invites
You can use the free templates on Canva or a similar program to make the invites and give them to your child to hand out on the eve of the party. It can be a great way to generate some excitement and get the idea of the party in their head. You need to ensure that your child sees the day as something different to a regular Saturday.
3. Party Room
The weather forecast might be good, but you may consider having a dedicated party room such as the kitchen just in case. It is that room that will get decorated and where the birthday boy or girl will find his/he presents in the morning. If the weather turns nasty, this room will give you options. Plus, some of the activities planned could take place in his/her room.
4. Decorations
If you are like some parents, you likely don’t decorate the house too much when you are hosting a birthday party for your child. However, to get yourself in the party spirit this year, you may consider making a personalized birthday banner easily and cheaply at home.
You can also get lots of balloons that you can place on the floor that the children will really enjoy. However, for this to be successful, you must ensure that the activities are not only interchangeable but also manageable to give yourself as much flexibility as possible. 6. Party Crown
To try making the day appear different, you can make the birthday boy/girl a felt party crown. It might take a few hours to make, but you can be sure that your child will love not. However, keep in mind that your child will be expecting the same each year until he/she outgrows it.
7. Activities
The activities planned for your child’s birthday will vary depending on your age group. If your child is particularly young, he/she will want to play with his/her new toys, so allow them time to do that as much as they want.
Party game wise, you should keep it simple such as the regular Pinata and a scavenger hunt where you hide pictures around the garden. To keep with the theme of the party, you can have both tattoos and balloons to play with. However, try to schedule short activities that can be done at any time throughout the day.
8. Making a Day of It
To ensure that the day is extra special you can put the tent up in your garden and camp out for the night. This will allow you to toast marshmallows and have sparklers. The birthday boy or girl and other children in attendance will probably be late to bed for that day, but that’s part of the appeal. They will never forget the night they had in the tent for a birthday.
