Think Dad, Think Different – Father’s Day Ideas for a Rad Dad

AD

With Father’s Day rapidly approaching, it’s time to secure some great gifts for the awesome father in your life. This year, I think the dads deserve something a little different.

In my experience, dads often get the short straw when it comes to gift guides. I grew up with shops pushing the narrative that dads would love nothing more than some black socks and a flannel. I’m sure there were plenty of dads out there who would be delighted by such gifts.

My own dad would feign surprise every year as I presented him with his socks and flannels (sometimes I’d mix it up with some chewing gum or a comb, but my gifts were reasonably predictable).

These days, gifts for dads are much more exciting, and I’m glad that my kids can give my husband something he’ll love.

My husband is a fantastic father, and would do anything for the kids. It only seems right that we find a proper way to thank him by giving him a Father’s Day celebration he deserves.

I’ve teamed up with Boots to show you what I’m getting the awesome dad in my life, and hopefully inspire you if you’re stuck for ideas.

Father’s Day Gift Ideas for a Rad Dad

Personal grooming items like aftershave are always a popular choice. I chose a selection of personal grooming gifts for my husband as he’s always looking for ways to tame his beard and look after his skin.

Below are some of my top picks:

L’Oreal Men Expert Barber Club Duo

beard oil gift set

If the dad you’re buying for has a beard, he’s bound to appreciate some lovely-smelling beard care. Beards need to be groomed correctly to keep them looking shiny and stylish. They need regular washing, combing and oiling, so this gift set that includes a wash and an oil is ideal.

Having a low maintenance one-for-all wash is a great idea. My husband isn’t  keen on using lots of different products when one will do, so this shower-ready beard, hair and face wash is bound to impress. Then he can finish off by oiling his beard.

Carolina Herrera 212 Men NYC

Having a beard doesn’t mean men’s aftershave is out of bounds. A spray on aftershave works more like a scent than a post-shave lotion. This Carolina Herrera scent is sophisticated and manly. It’s a high end aftershave that the recipient will adore.

L’Oreal Men Expert ‘Get Better With Age’ Anti-Aging Duo

Men’s skincare has come a long way in recent years. It’s not just women who need to moisturise, all skin needs proper care, including cleansing and moisturising. This duo has anti-aging properties to keep the skin looking soft, supple and youthful.

Super Facialist For Men ‘Looking Sharp’ Gift Set

I love that this gift set includes a little bit of whimsy alongside high quality skincare. A cactus growing kit is a great gift in its own right, so accompanied by a facial wash and moisturiser it’s a whole new ballgame. The face wash is energising, which is perfect for my husband as he needs all the help he can get when it comes to waking up in the morning!

Other Ways to Make Father’s Day Special

Father’s day doesn’t have to be about the gifts you buy. There are lots of other ways you can make the dad in your life feel special and appreciated.

Father and son Rob (father) Greg (son)

Below are some of my favourite ways to help the kids show my husband just how much we love him:

  • Breakfast in bed (you probably want to help you children with this one, or avoid hot food and drink!)
  • A homemade card.
  • A homemade banner.
  • A lie-in (dads get tired too!)
  • A family walk.
  • A special meal of his choice (either cooked or ordered in, I prefer to order it!)
  • Control of the TV remote
