It’s been a strange few months and we’ve all been desperate for things to go back to normal. This week the beer gardens opened and thousands of people have got plans to meet up with small groups of friends for a catch up.
The trouble is, we’ve been in for so long, it’s almost like we’ve forgotten how to go out. I gave birth during the first week of the first lockdown, meaning that for me especially, it’s been a really long time since I’ve met friends for drinks.
If you’re feeling like you need a refresher course on getting ready for a night with friends, these simple things will make you feel beer garden ready.
Do Your Nails

Manicurists have been closed for a long time, and now they’re open, they’re booked up for weeks! A lot of us have been perfecting our salon treatments at home and can do a pretty decent job ourselves. Why not treat yourself to a salon-quality manicure by using gel nail polish. It always has a high shine finish and lasts much longer than regular nail polish.
Style Your Hair
You might not have had chance to get a hair appointment before meeting your friends, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth styling. Slap a hair mask on the day before and go to bed with a heatless curler in place to style your hair without damaging it. That way, you’ll feel fab, look amazing, but won’t have to put in much effort!

Apply Sunscreen
This is honestly more of a necessity than a ‘getting ready treat’. It’s possible you’ve spent the whole winter indoors and your skin hasn’t had much need to be protected. Now that the world is opening up once more, you’re going to need sunscreen. Beer gardens are one of the top places to get burnt as the weather gets warmer. Unpredictable weather teamed with slightly chilly spring temperatures can leave you with a false sense of security (and a sunburnt nose). If you’re going to be sitting outside, even in cloudy weather, you need to apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
Buy a New Lippie
Our mouths have been hidden by masks for so long that lipstick has been totally useless. While you’ll still need to mask up to queue for drinks or order table service, your mouth will be on display while you sip your drink. Go for something bold and bright to draw attention to your mouth.
Wear Your Favourite Shoes

You’ve been home for months and although new shoes might be calling, the last thing you want is a blister from walking to the pub. It’s probably been a while since you had chance to wear fancy heels and if you’re anything like me, you’ll have to re-learn everything you once know about teetering around on them without a topple. Don’t ruin your first foray with sore feet, wear whatever shoes are comfiest, even if they’re trainers. No one will judge, everyone will just be happy to be out with their friends once again!
