When I was in secondary school (or high school, depending on where you live in the country/world), times were very different. Phones didn’t have a colour screen, TikTok didn’t exist, and MSN Messenger was life.
I’d come home from school, watch some teen shows on Trouble, text my friends about what time we’d be on MSN, then meet them online when my mum said I could use the computer. These were undeniably simpler times, but were they actually better?
My thoughts are: probably not. There’s loads of stuff I wish I had when I was in high school. I’m going to do the textbook parent thing now and say these kids don’t know how good they’ve got it. Good lord, I feel old!
Things I Wish I Had When I was in High School

Proper Leavers Hoodies
Back in my day, if you were leaving school, you’d write on each other’s shirts with a sharpie. I wasn’t so keen in this, it always seemed to be an excuse for some naughty boy you barely knew to write something crude on your back that you couldn’t read until you get home. Nowadays, the schools near me seem to have proper leavers hoodies to commemorate the rite of passage. YouTube Makeup Tutorials
When I was at school, makeup consisted of three things – Dream Matte Mousse, a block colour of brightly coloured eyeshadow (done badly) and some glittery lip gloss. Nowadays faces are made up to perfection. No one wears their foundation too thick – or too orange! Eyeshadow is expertly blended and everyone looks great!
I can only assume the advent of easily accessible makeup tutorials is the reason for how everyone basically turned into a makeup artist overnight. I’m very envious that these youngsters were able to skip the awkward stage of looking like creepy clown and have jumped straight to flawless. On the other hand, I’m glad for my daughter that she gets to reap the benefits of the modern age and will never have to look back at photos of her spending her teen years with a bright orange face!

Online Study Tips
This might seem like an overly geeky wish, but when I did my exams, I had to learn from books. Actual books. The internet wasn’t the beast it is today and I would have to look things up in a physical form. Sometimes the book you looked in didn’t have the answer, then you’d have to consult multiple books! If I could have Googled my homework back then, I’m certain school would have been a breeze!

I am personally glad I went to college etc when mobil phone weight a tons and they were black and white, they did not have camera or Instagram, tik tok, facebook etc. where social media did not exist. Being social back then was to meet at the park or at a friends house after school/ college . I feel sorry for the kids now. Gosh I am old to say that .
