The Scariest Experiences New Parents Face

If you are a new parent, or about to become one, then you are probably more than a little worried about what is going to happen next. There is no task harder, or job greater, than trying to raise a child to be a fully grown, healthy and balanced adult, and it is only natural to feel a little concerned that you might not quite be able to do it all right. However, this fear is not necessarily grounded in anything, and it is worth remembering that everyone feels this way at this point in their life. In this article, we are going to look at some of the scariest experiences that most, if not all, new parents face. This will help you to appreciate that you are not alone, and will hopefully mean that you can prepare for some of these scarier things early on.

Getting Them To Sleep

Many a parent before you has almost lost their mind trying to get their baby to sleep. It is likely this is going to be one of the main concerns that you have too. The truth is that, as well as being worrying, it can actually be a bit scary when you feel as though they are not going to sleep properly. Because, in the highly emotive world of the new parent, it is so easy to allow your thoughts to run away from you, you can end up feeling as though you are somehow never going to manage to get your child to sleep. That is obviously not realistic, and the sooner you realize that, the better.

A big part of this too might be that you fear never sleeping yourself. It is certainly true that you are going to sleep very little at first, but the truth is that you will find it to be particularly engaging, and you won’t be quite as grouchy as you might have assumed. You will genuinely just be happy to watch your little baby as they sleep – when they finally do. Remember: they will sleep eventually, no matter what, so it’s important to make sure that you bear that in mind when it all gets a bit too much.

Skin Problems

Anyone who has never had a baby simply cannot appreciate just how often they break out in various kinds of skin problems, nor how many of those problems there are. There are, in truth, so many skin problems that your baby might have, and most babies are going to have at least a couple of them at some point in their young life. One of your greatest challenges will be trying not to worry too much when this happens, and simply ensuring that you are doing whatever you need to do in order to try and fix their skin issues.

One of the most common kinds of skin problems a baby can develop is a rash. These can happen as a result of the nappy, some product not being quite right for your child, or because of exposure to heat. Whatever the cause, rashes are not usually much to worry about, and will go away of their own accord – but get them checked out if you are concerned about them, and make sure that you treat them with a soothing creme to help your baby along a little. It should resolve in no time.

Rashes are not the only skin problem you will have to encounter, however. Your baby might also develop something more severe like acne. This is more common than you might think, and it is something that can really alarm parents when it is first discovered, for it just looks so extreme and worrying. However, no matter how bad it is, there are a range of baby acne treatment methods which you can try, so you should never feel as though it is going to be possible to deal with.

Whatever skin problems your baby develops, remember that in the vast extreme of cases it turns out to be nothing much. That being said, always see the doctor if you are worried about something, and especially if it seems to just get worse and worse.

Crying

It should come as no surprise to anyone that babies cry, and cry a lot. But when it starts happening for real, and it is your own baby rather than someone else’s, something happens within you, and it can suddenly seem like a much more severe situation than it would otherwise appear. That crying can get very concerning, and it is also something that can cause a lot of stress, but you need to try and do whatever you can to keep it under wraps. Your instinct will tell you whether you think that your baby needs feeding, or is tired, or whatever else it might be. In the meantime, try not to worry if your baby is crying a lot – some babies just cry more than others, and that’s the way it goes. You only need to worry about dealing with the here and now, and the next issue that needs dealing with. In time, the crying will abate.

Making No Sound

As concerning as crying can be, it is nowhere near as frightening as when your child appears to be making no sound whatsoever. This is especially concerning if you know that they are awake, and you might well be worried that something has happened to them. But more often than not, they are merely sleeping very peacefully, and then you will find that you regret waking them up. It is always good to check, of course, and at first you will find that you are checking routinely as you might be so worried about them. But once it has happened a few times, you will find that you can find your way around that experience emotionally, much like all the others that you can expect when you have a baby.

Taking Them Outside

When you are having to take them outside for the first time, it can be a particularly daunting experience. You might be worried about some harm coming to them, or feel that they are not going to be able to remain warm enough, or that they are going to become ill from someone out there. But you need to take them outside every now and then, even if it is just a stroll around the block, and it is good for the both of you to do this regularly. The first time you take them outside, you are going to find that you are worried about all these things, but once you have broken the ice you will find it easier and easier as time goes on, so that is something to bear in mind. You should then be able to ensure that you are going to take them out regularly, which is something that can only be good for them in the long run.

Giving Them Enough Attention

Something you are bound to worry about too is whether or not you are giving them enough care and attention. It can be hard to gauge this if you have never had a child before, as you simply have nothing to compare it to, and you might wonder whether you are giving them anywhere near the kind of attention they need. The truth is that most parents give more than enough, but never feel as if they are doing so. It’s one of those things that you will just get used to in time, and it is only going to be a matter of waiting it out. But if you want to make sure that you are giving them enough care and attention, then you can do so by paying close attention to your instincts, and by asking any other parents that you might know for their advice on the matter. In all likelihood, they will tell you that you are worrying about nothing.

Keeping Them Warm

Instinctively, you will know full well that keeping your baby warm is one of the most important things you need to do. But it is one thing to know that, and quite another to know that you are actually doing so in fact, and this is a common worry that most new parents face at some point or another in looking after their new baby. You will know that your baby is warm enough if they are not too upset, and that is one of the most reliable indicators there are. But you might also want to learn about some of the surefire ways to work out their temperature, such as gently touching their belly – that is where they tend to project the most heat from their body, so if you are overheating them, you can find out there. Otherwise, keep the house warm, keep them layered up, and they should be warm enough.

There are plenty of common fears that you will face as a new parent. Work your way through them, and you should be looking after your child much more effectively.
