Dad’s Dram whisky tasting set from Master of Malt is the perfect gift for a whisky-loving dad who likes sampling what’s out there. In case you’re not aware, there are different types of whisky about and they have a section under the Scotch heading that lists some of the different types. My husband prefers things from the Islay and peaty variety but is always keen to try others too. They list the types of whisky and region, so you can narrow down what you’re looking for and each whisky type has tasting notes.
As an aside, Master of Malt sell other spirits like gin and rum and the site offers free delivery if you spend over a certain amount – so if you’re buying a gift anyway, you might want to treat yourself!

Dad’s Dram from Master of Malt Review
Now I’ve finished singing the praise of Master of Malt as a whole, I can share some more info on this lovely Father’s Day gift. It contains 6 30ml sample of different, popular whiskies. Each one is a bottle and wax-sealed, which I think adds to the luxury and shows that it’s a high quality gift.
The six samples arrive in a case (you can choose the colour, we went for green) and comes with a card containing tasting notes for each drink so the drinker knows what they’re getting and what to expect from it.
I think addition of the tasting notes is a great move. It means that whisky novices and experts alike can learn a little more about the drinks and gain a little more info on what type of whisky they like.

Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old
Stating by unpacking the box from left to right, the first dram is Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old. This is often described as oaky, rich and fruity. On the nose, it gives buttery toast and woodshavings, so it’s got an interesting mix and malty tones that you can both smell and taste.
Teeling Small Batch
Teeling is a small batch Irish Whiskey (note the different spelling for a different type – Irish Whiskey gets an ‘e’). This is described as having a spiced, rich palate, smelling like cute grass, spice and vanilla. Overall, it’s supposed to have a creamy and spicy blend.
Islay Whisky 8 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
This Islay Whisky from That Boutique-y Whisky Company gives a peaty first taste and leads to sweeter fruity and vanilla tones. It smells peaty with hints of citrus peels, fudge and roasted malt.
Tobermory 12 Year Old
This is another fruity one that smells like pears, peaches and apples and has a taste profile with hints of stone fruits. It’s on the sweeter and fruitier side.
Talisker Skye
Expect a sweet one from this Talisker Skye dram. It smells sweet like toffee and ice cream, and tastes like smoke and apple turnovers with a few other subtle flavours.
Darkness 8 Year Old
Darkness 8 Year Old is a sweet, spiced flavour whisky. The taste has hints of raisin and prune, smells like chocolate peanut and dired cherries and offers a finish of smoke and the chocolate persists.
Overall Impression of Dad’s Dram
This is a really well thought out selection of whiskies that anyone who is interested in whisky will be happy to receive. There is enough variety to cover most whisky palates and gives the recipient opportunity to discover more whiskies that they might be fans of.
