How to Plan the Perfect Romantic Getaway Abroad

Taking your other half on a trip abroad is a beautiful way to show how much you love them. Whether it’s a special trip for a proposal, or you just want celebrate your relationship and see the world – it all comes down to planning. The one thing to remember is that you should leave your luggage in one of the many storage options in the city. Radical Storage is one such business that offers you the chance to leave your luggage somewhere safe while you explore.

If you plan properly before you go, all kinds of little issues can add up to a not very good time.

I’m probably an over-planner, but I feel much more relaxed knowing that everything is accounted for. That way, I know I won’t need to think of anything on the spot and it helps me relax and enjoy my break more.

Below are my favourite planning tips for planning (and enjoying) a romantic getaway abroad.

Choose a Location You’ll Love

Think hard about the type of holiday you’re after before taking the plunge. If it’s just the two of you, no children, then you might want to skip a resort that’s family-friendly.

If you want to sample the local cuisines and spend the day exploring the area, then paying for an all-inclusive holiday is a bit of a waste.

You might even prefer a boutique hotel to big chain, or like the look of luxury trips to Botswana.

If the holiday is a surprise, try to get some information out of your partner on what their dream holiday is. If you’re planning the trip together, it could be worth starting a joint Pinterest board.

Get Medical Travel Insurance

Nobody plans to get ill or injured when they go away, but everybody should plan to be covered if they do. It’s important to compare medical travel insurance and take out the best cover for your needs.

If you’re doing something active like skiing, you’re going to need very different cover to if you’re just planning to stroll around Paris.

Check what the insurance companies offer, compare prices and go for the best option – not necessarily the cheapest.

Get the Wardrobe

I’m not suggesting you get a whole new wardrobe, but you need to make sure you’re bringing appropriate clothes. Don’t just “make do” because you might find you’re uncomfortable on your getaway.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money, grabbing a few second hand items from Vinted is both affordable and good for the planet.

If you’ll be walking a lot, make sure you’ve got comfy shoes. If it’s hot, make sure you’ve got lightweight clothing.

Check what the etiquette is for the area you’re visiting. If your clothing needs to be modest, make sure you have modest clothing.

Plan Activities

It might be tempting to just wing it when it comes to activities, but you might find that can be a cause for extra stress.

Even if you don’t want to make strict plans, it helps to scope out what’s available. Make a list in your notes app of places you want to visit and things you want to do, along with their location and opening times so you won’t arrive somewhere and be disappointed. You could even plan a private motor yacht charter!

It can be best to book ahead for certain activities, especially if you can find vouchers online and snag a discount.

The secret to a great couples getaway is to put all your effort into planning ahead, that way you can just enjoy yourself (and each other’s company) when you get there.

Happy holidaying!
