How to stay healthy during the cold months

With the cold and dark winter days comes warm drinks, winter woollies and comfort foods. However, not all that glitters is gold… runny roses, colds, coughs and sneezes are also a part of winter and because of that, it’s important to stay healthy.

Wash your hands.

I’m sure you know that hand hygiene is extremely important but I simply can’t stress it enough. As this article on nidirect mentions, “Washing your hands properly is one of the most important things you can do to help prevent and control the spread of many illnesses.”

Good hand hygiene will reduce the chances of getting ill as well as stop the spread of illnesses and infection to people around you. When you have no access to clean, running water, grab the hand sanitiser. Ocean Free manufacture alcohol-based fragrance-free and scented hand sanitiser that can kill 99.999% of bacteria, germs and viruses.

Hand sanitiser is one of my favourite things to keep in my purse at all times. As Really Missing Sleep comments, “hand sanitiser is the best solution for on-the-go hand hygiene.” If you’ve touched public surfaces – door handles, light switches and bannister rails – it’s time to sanitise your hands.

Keep active and eat healthy.

I think that keeping active and eating a balanced diet is the way to go when it comes to staying healthy. Fizzy Peaches thinks the same! She believes that “By eating healthy, having a good night’s sleep and exercising, you are priming your immune system to effectively fight disease.”

If, in spite of all your precautions, disease still finds its way to you, the number one thing to do is to not stress. See your doctor, tell her about your problems and strictly follow her advice to be back on your feet quickly. If she gives you a prescription, order at https://www.pricepropharmacy.com/ for the best products at prices as low as a quarter of what you’ll find in any local drug store.

Take time for yourself and your family.

Family time is always important – it creates strong bonds, reduces stress (sometimes induces stress but let’s no go there) and it enhances physical health, it could simply be going to walks together, playing games together or cooking as a family. However, it’s also essential to take some much needed time for yourself. I normally enjoy a bubble bath or a good book!
