How To Reduce Work-Related Stress In Your Life

One of the areas of our lives that gives us the most stress is often our work and career. Quite often, this work-related stress will spill over into our lives and cause us lots of other problems. Managing our stress levels surrounding work is a challenge. There are many pressures when it comes to our careers, and finding the balance is tricky.

Here are some tips to help you manage work-related stress in your life.

Watch The Amount That You Are Working

Some careers have very strict guidelines about the amount that you are allowed to work. For example, if you drive a vehicle for a living, you will be bound by drivers hours regulations to ensure that you are not out on the roads without enough rest. There are obvious safety implications involved in driving when you are tired.

Unfortunately, many industries do not necessarily have the ability to prevent you from working over and above your required hours. Stopping late in the office an hour or two here and there to finish off your work is not so much of a problem, however, when this is a daily occurrence, you are eating into your own personal relaxation time and not giving yourself enough time off to unwind. All of this can have a negative impact on your stress levels and your health.

Be strict with yourself and go home from work at the time that you should. If you have too much work on your plate, you may need to develop a better strategy that is more effective at getting this done in your allotted time. If you are an employee and your workload is unreasonably large, you need to make your managers know about this fact as it will be detrimental to your health.

Turn Off Your Emails When You Are Not At Home

If you are someone that does not stop working when you get home, you are carrying all of your work stress into your home life. This can be very detrimental for your own personal health and it may have a negative effect on your relationships.

If you have your emails set up to go to your phone, make sure that you change the settings so that you are not syncing work emails to your device outside of work hours. In addition to this, don’t even open any work-related apps, make any phone calls, or do any work on your computer.

When you are not at work, you are not getting paid to do anything. You should not be expected to carry out work outside of work hours, and you should do everything that you can to get out of the habit of doing this.

If your employers seem to expect this from you and after talking to them about it are not willing to budge on the issue, it may be something that you should seek advice about through a workers union or an employment advice organization such as Acas.
