With all the things that babies need and their often strict schedules, it can feel as though you spend longer getting ready to get out of the house with a new baby than you manage to spend actually outside of the house. If you want to go out more, but getting the baby ready feels like an impossible task, try some of these tips to make it out of the house at least occasionally.
Stock The Car
With all the time most of us spend in our cars, it might as well be part of the house. Why not stock it up with things that your baby needs? Keep things like an extra diaper bag and a stroller in the car. Keep some spare clothes in the car, as well as essentials like diapers, wipes, paper towels, and an extra set of shoes. A stocked car means you need to spend less time gathering up all the things that you need every time you go out. Keep the car locked if you’re storing things in it and don’t risk leaving anything in there that can’t be easily replaced.
Double Up
You probably have a duplicate set of keys just in case you can’t find your original set, and the same principle can be applied to things that your baby needs.
Double up on the essentials like wipes, diapers, a changing mat, and diaper cream, so you can keep a bag packed, ready to gran as you head out. This could be a good way to use up free samples that you get from store or brand promotions.
To be properly prepared, invest in a second diaper bag. Having an alternate can save you the stress of running around frantically last minute if you can’t find your main one.
Narrow It Down
If doubling up is too expensive, there is a different approach.
For a cheaper option, spend time thinking about what you really need when you go out. Are you going for a walk, or out to buy groceries? Then you can probably get by without the spare bibs or the bottle warmer.
A less-is-more style can be easier. Pack the essentials and leave the rest behind.
Choose The Right Wrap
The market for baby kit is awash with options for carriers and wraps, each with different advantages and disadvantages. These devices can make life a lot easier on the go, as they free up your hands, and keep the baby close to you. Unfortunately, some of them take up a lot of room.
Look for a wrap that works for you and doesn’t need its own car-seat-sized carrier. For some parents, a ring sling is the best option. It’s easy to get the baby in and out of, without too many straps or other complicated things. Others prefer a more compact style of wrap, which will fold up tightly for easy storage in your diaper bag when you don’t need it.
