Becoming a mum can be an exciting but often bewildering time. From the day your baby is born you are in a full-time job looking after them, and your life most likely massively changed within an instant. There are too many ways that becoming a parent changes your lifestyle to mention them all, but here are a few of the big ones!
1. You are not number one anymore
This one sounds obvious, but it is actually really strange to get used to. Most people spend a fair bit of time worrying about the people they love, but ultimately, the majority of us look after ourselves as a priority. When you are looking after something as precious as a baby, that all changes. Your child is the priority at all times, and that will feel a bit weird at first. Embrace it though, your baby will be happy to accept all the love you can give it.
2. Less sleep

Yup, this is one of the more difficult things to get used to! Your baby does not tend to take any notice of sleep patterns and will largely wake up and sleep whenever they feel like it. New mums must learn how to operate on less sleep than they are used to, which can be a bit of a challenge! Don’t worry though – you’ll get through it!
3. Nights out? Forget about it
Your partying days may not be over, but they are certainly going to be on pause for a while. A baby needs attention during every waking second and developing a bond between baby and mother is a vital stage of their development. All in all this will give you very little chance for a drink, though you might be able to get a babysitter once in a while so you can let your hair down.
4. Changing bad habits
Many of us picked up bad habits when we were younger, an obvious one being smoking (fag behind the bike shed, anyone?). Unsurprisingly, there are issues with smoking when you have a small child. Tobacco smoke is extremely harmful for little ones, and smoking is perhaps the most obvious bad habit to drop upon becoming a mum. Various techniques can help to stop smoking, including patches or even little pouches that you pop in your mouth that provide a release of nicotine, with fewer other harmful chemicals. Many varieties of this product, called snus, are totally tobacco-free, making them essential for 2020 if you are becoming a parent soon.
5. You will never have a full set of clean clothes

No matter how many loads of washing you put on, it will never be enough. Be prepared for your child to add to the washing basket every single mealtime, and that is even before you consider the mess that the baby makes of your own clothes and bedsheets!w
Overall, it is fair to say that becoming a mum is probably the biggest lifestyle change you will ever go through. Ultimately, becoming a mother is incredibly rewarding – the love of your child makes it all worth it!
