Many people don’t know that the quality of their sleep is dependent on the products they use. It’s true; many of the items we use in our daily lives have a huge impact on how well we sleep at night and can even affect our health. If you want to improve your sleep, there are some simple changes you can make to both your personal care products as well as what you’re eating for dinner. In this article, I will go into detail about living with a sustainable mindset and how it can help you sleep better.
Cutting out processed foods is good for your well being because it means you’re not eating chemicals. After cutting out processed foods, it’s important to start making your own food so that you know exactly what ingredients are in your dish (and when possible, organic). This will allow for increased control over the quality and nutritional value of your meals. After cooking at home a couple of times this week, you’ll start feeling really good about my new healthy lifestyle. Most importantly, be sure never to rely on caffeine as an energy boost because there can be negative side effects such as weight gain or sleeplessness if consumed too often.

Next, consider your personal care items such as sanitary and beauty products. Many mass-produced products are full of chemicals that can have negative effects on your health. The chemicals used in many products can trigger allergies and irritate the skin.
If you’re looking to make a lifestyle change, we’d recommend choosing one or two aspects of your life that you want to work on and making those changes first before tackling them all at once. Once my new sustainable mindset is in place, it will be easier for me to maintain an organic diet as well as consider more natural alternatives when purchasing products for personal use. In doing so, I’ll have a healthier mind-body connection which means better sleep.
Changes can seem daunting but you don’t need to do everything right away. Start with just one aspect of your life by considering what aspect would benefit from sustainability most – maybe even writing down goals for how these changes could help improve your current situation (and your situation in the future).
If you want to live in a more sustainable way there is one thing you can do that isn’t necessarily about what you put into your body but what you do to it. Everyone knows that a healthy body needs exercise but you might also want to consider limiting the use of smartphones, and screens, generally before bedtime. Why? The ‘blue light that omits from our connected devices can be very disruptive to your sleep cycle.
Moreover, many of us live with a constant feeling that we’re missing out on something if we don’t check our phones or social media accounts every few minutes – this can lead to feelings of anxiety and stress which in turn will affect the quality of your sleep.
Try turning off all screen-based devices at least an hour before bedtime so that you have time for other activities like reading, writing or meditating. You may also want to invest in some amber glasses as they block blue light without having any negative impact on your vision (they are non prescription lenses). This is one small step towards living more sustainably but it’s worth taking.
You may also want to consider what you are sleeping on and invest in an organic mattress. An organic mattress has lots of benefits for you and the planet, including reducing your exposure to toxins, chemicals and pesticides. For more information about organic mattresses visit: www.snoozelgreen.com. Mass-produced mattresses are often made from petrochemicals that have been known to trigger allergies such as asthma, dermatitis and eczema. Also, chemicals from plastics like BPA have been shown to disrupt hormones such as estrogen which can lead to weight gain or anxiety – both of which are linked to trouble sleeping. Organic mattresses, by dint of being made from natural materials, last longer and are safer to dispose of than the mass-produced alternatives.
