Fun Ways to Show You Care This Father’s Day

Father’s Day is quickly looming, and you might be a little clueless about what to get the dad in your life. Whether he’s your own dad, a step-dad, or the father to your kids, chances are, you want to show him exactly what he means to you and the whole family.

For whatever reason, I tend do draw a blank when I need to buy for someone I love, so I’ve started compiling ideas throughout the year. I’m more of a “saw this and thought of you” gift giver, so I don’t like to be put on the spot near the time.

As planner, I do have some ideas to share with you about my thought process for giving something meaningful. Below are my best tips to show the dad in your life how much you care:

Choose the card carefully

A Father’s Day card should be personal. It should show that you listen, that you take note of his hobbies and interests, or incorporate an inside joke into your card buying. For example, if the dad in your life is a golf addict, then a Father’s day golf card is ideal. One of my friends when we were kids used to refer to her dad as a big bear, so every year he’d end up with a card with a bear on it. I swear a carefully thought out card is always extra special to its recipient.

Bake some sweet treats

My little ones love to show their dad they care by making something he’ll love. Nothing says ‘thanks for being my dad’ more than baking biscuits and cakes. Baking with kids can be a lovely activity, and receiving baked good is even better. Even if you’re a grown up with no kids to help in the kitchen, it’s still nice to give your dad some tasty baked goods.

Take him out for the day

From my own experience of dads (both having one and marrying one), I’ve noticed they like to get out. Dads love day trip, and if you’re lucky, they’ll even let you drive! Plan a day out with the dad in your life that involves taking a stroll down memory lane, or exploring something new. If you can feed him lunch too, he’ll be even happier with his Father’s Day outing.

Give him the chance to choose

I know there are some people out there who consider a gift voucher a little bit of a cop  out, but I still think they’re one of the best gifts you can give. Choose a voucher for something you know they’ll love. For example, if you know they’re fond of eating out, get a gift card that can be used at a few of their favourite places. If they love a certain football team, buy a gift voucher for the merch shop. Some other good gift voucher ideas are for things like sports experiences, craft beer shops or anything that helps with a hobby. As long as you take time to consider the best place to get the voucher from, the dad in your life will love it.
