When you’ve lived in your house a while, your surrounding can feel quite stale. I imagine a lot more people are finding this since we’ve all had an extended period of staying in lately. While moving having a clear-out might not be enough of a change, but moving house is just too drastic, home-improvement projects hit a sweet spot.
The beautiful thing about home improvements is they can be small scale or a full overhaul. You could go for something that will give a great DIY result, or get a company like Bishops Group to do it for you. Whatever your budget, there will absolutely be a project for you.
Four House-Changing Home Improvement Projects
Interior fashions can change quickly. It never ceased to amaze me how often my friends are painting their walls or replacing perfectly good sofas. I’m a little apprehensive about chasing the short-term trends. I like something that’s timeless, good quality and will still be admired four or five years down the line.
My favourite home improvement projects to plan are the three I’ve listed below:
Revamp Your Stairs

Stairs are often forgotten when it comes to doing up your home, but they really shouldn’ t be. People put up with lumpy, ugly staircases when they don’t need to be. You can either get a professional in to do the job, or buy staircase components yourself. Either way, you don’t have to live with a less than perfect staircase.
Get a New Bathroom

Bathrooms get a lot of use, even more so when you’re a parent. They take on the role of so many uses. They’re functional for everyday ablutions. They’re handy for hosing down those kids you thought it would be a good idea to have (and allowed to play in the mud). They give you a quiet space to relax while you soak in the bath, and they can even be a great hiding place when normal life becomes a little too noisy.
No wonder they can look so tired, so quickly.
I wouldn’t suggest you rip out a suite on a whim or re-tile the room for fun, but updating your bathroom is always a satisfying project. Planning a new bathroom is exciting. It means you can spend hours on Pinterest and no one will judge you. You can update the room with a timeless look that won’t date in the next year or two. If it’s been a while since you’ve had a new bathroom fitted, you’ll be surprised at what’s out there. You’ll be even more impressed when you feel the pressure in your new shower!
Re-Vamp the Bedroom

Bedrooms get a lot of use too, but they’re often overlooked. Just because no one really gets to see your bedroom, doesn’t mean it should be neglected. After all, it’s the place where you should feel most relaxed. You’re expected to sleep in this room and recharge. It should exude comfort and calmness.
Painting the walls is a quick and easy way to give the room a face lift, but what about the furniture? Again, if you just want a new look without having to spend a lot, painting the furniture will do that too.
Replacing your bed will be the real game-changer. I know when we replaced ours and got a comfy new mattress, it totally changed our lives. It might sound dramatic, but spending money on comfort gave us a fab night’s sleep every night, which impacted on our day times too!
Improve Your Kitchen

Another fab area for improvement is the kitchen. Kitchens are also lived-in spaces. You prepare three meals a day in these rooms (and countless snacks if you have kids!). They can get worn-looking fast and need refreshing pretty frequently.
While you might not want the expense or upheaval of having a new kitchen fitted, there are plenty of things you can do.
If you kitchen is basically fine when it comes to fixtures and fitting, and it’s just looking a little worn, consider painting your cupboards. You could even update the flooring and replace any appliances that are past their best.
Once you’ve completed the above three home improvements, you house will have its sparkle back and you’ll fall in love with it, once again.
