With the plethora of bed designs available for all sorts of budgets, it’s only natural to feel confused. I know I did when I first started to buy a new mattress!
My idea was that if you buy online, the process would be simpler and faster, but the online market is just as developed (if not more so) as the brick and mortar one so it’s next to impossible to keep your cool and browse through all the products.
And what’s with all the materials and features they promote? Do I want an all-foam design, an innerspring, a hybrid or just a latex mattress would do? Before you decide to go with the point and select method and suffer the consequences, I did most of the job for you sleepers out there.
I dug through the mountain of products and narrowed it down to two amazing beds: the Emma, an all-foam design and the Simba, a hybrid design. So, today I’ll present you the Simba and Emma compared with all the features, pros, and cons laid out for you to see and understand.

Foam vs. Coils
There is a debate going on among manufacturers and specialists with some recommending foam for better muscle and tissue regeneration during the night and some claiming that coils are the best way to go.
In the case of Emma vs. Simba, it all resumes to your unique preferences because both surfaces provide a high level of comfort. Of course, Simba will be firmer and bouncier than Emma, but Emma will be more contouring and accommodating (especially for side sleepers).
So, the debate is deciding which bed is best for you and your partner (if you share the bed with someone).
Differences in Structure
As I already mentioned, Emma is an all-foam design while Simba is a hybrid. However, each boasts a complex structure, with several layers inside.
Emma has one breathable cover, that’s impressive, and three inner layers:
- Point-elastic Airgocell foam – A special type of foam, with open cell structure, created by the manufacturer to keep the sleeper cool and dry during the night. The structure maintains constant airflow and contours to your every curve.
- Viscoelastic foam – Also known as memory foam, this is the layer that ensures pressure relieving and fantastic contouring. It’s also the layer that most side sleepers adore.
- Foam base – This is the thickest sheet of foam in Emma’s construction but it’s also the sturdiest. The base is designed to provide support for the layers on top, to keep your back in almost perfect alignment and to help with breathability.
On the other hand, Simba features four inner layers and a soft, breathable cover:
- Simbatex – A proprietary material that can give gentle support and keeps the sleeper cool during the night.
- A sheet of coils – Simba features 2,500 cone-shaped coils individually wrapped to provide custom support. The result is a bouncy, accommodating surface that gives support exactly where you need it.
- Viscoelastic foam – The manufacturer wanted to avoid any overheating problems, so they introduced the layer of contouring foam underneath the coils and the layer in charge with cooling.
- Foam base – Similar to the one discussed above.
As you can see, the structure is basically the same, with the difference that Simba Hybrid has a layer of coils.
Edge Support
When it comes to this feature, that layer of coils makes all the difference in the world. Because Emma is only foam, it will compress when you sit on the edge, but the Simba doesn’t have this problem. However, both support a person sleeping close to the edge just fine.
Breathability
Most modern foam designs solved the overheating problem, and Emma is one of those mattresses with a fantastic system that takes care of body heat and humidity. Simba is also very well ventilated because of the coils and a layer of foam created for especially for this purpose.
Overall, both beds rock when it comes to ventilation and breathability.
In Conclusion
At the end of the day, it all comes to your personal preferences. According to TopMattress.com rating, the Emma is extremely appreciated by side sleepers while Simba is great for back and stomach sleepers. However, side sleepers also enjoyed Simba and Emma can be quite great for the other positions. So, in the end, you are the one to make the difference between the two.
