Five-year-old girls can be hard to buy for. As the owner of a very almost five-year-old, I can confirm their interests are diverse! They also seem to want something different every day in the run up to Christmas (I blame the adverts).
Luckily, this isn’t my first rodeo and I’ve noticed that there are a lot of common themes that will always impress on Christmas day. I’ve compiled this list of Christmas gift ideas for a five-year-old girl in the hope it helps some of you out.
I’ll admit it’s a little unicorn heavy, but that’s because we’re a unicorn household.
For some reason, when you daughter starts school, she’ll latch onto a mythical creature which will almost certainly either be a mermaid or a unicorn (never a minotaur, weirdly) and that will be the theme of everything they want for the next 5 years. If you happen to be in a mermaid household, then I suggest you mentally swap every unicorn gift on my list for a mermaid equivalent.

Below are my top picks for gifts for little girls aged around 4-5. I’ve added links to where you can buy these from where possible to make things a bit easier for you if you’re doing some Christmas shopping in a rush.
Santa Steals Christmas
Is it even Christmas if you don’t include a festive book in your pile of prezzies? I’ve put this down first, because if you do Christmas Eve boxes then this is the perfect book. Even if you don’t, it’s a fun read that your little ones will love.
Santa Steals Christmas by Eve Nairn-Magante was written by Eve when she was just six years old! It’s a children’s book written by a child, which is perfect because she’ll know exactly what children are interested in.
The book is beautifully illustrated and follows an action-packed mystery adventure that leaves clues for the readers to help them solve the puzzle.
JD Bug Kids Swayer
The JD Bug Swayer is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, which makes it a great gift for an English Christmas (you never know what the weather will be!)
This is from skates.co.uk, which is a site that sells loads of great things for Christmas including scooters, skates and even balance bikes!
I chose this because it has a really low centre of gravity. This means hours of fun can be had and the chances of falling off are pretty minimal. Even if they do fall off, it’s a very small drop so it really minimizes the chances of any Christmas day injuries. Perfect! Another positive point is that it can be adjusted as your child grows so it’s a gift that’ll last for many more Christmases ahead.
Posh Chelsea Boots
I always try to get my children something to wear for Christmas. I think it adds to the excitement if the get dressed in their special new outfit and play with their new toys.
This pair of Chelsea Boots from Start-Rite are just gorgeous. A patent black upper with a flash of gold on the side makes them look very festive, but they’re not limited to the season. I’d say they’re a versatile boot that can be worn all year round and the gold is discreet enough to be worn to school too on those extra cold days.
Sunburst City Dragons
I love this range of Sunburst City books and stationery from Jane Huddleston. The whole range makes for a perfect present, I couldn’t pick a favourite. If I had to give you a specific Christmas recommendation though, I’d probably say Jack’s Secret is the most festive. You can currently get every book in the range for £12 on Amazon.
The stationery makes for a fab present too, especially if you’ve got children who like to write and draw and create their own stories. You can even get a colour-your-own version of Jack’s secret!
Gruffalo Chocolate
The Gruffalo is a huge hit in our house and with young kids everywhere. Chocolate is also a big hit so Gruffalo themed chocolate is bound to be a winner!

Chunky Colouring Pencils
Little hands prefer chunkier pencils so treat your littles ones to a box of Stabilo Woody. They’re multi talented pencils that are easy to grip. The colours are soft and leave clear marks, and they can even mark glass! I like them because they come with a chunky pencil sharpener too, which can often be hard to find. I think these are the perfect stocking filler for any creative little one in your life.
Create n Colour Take Along
If you and your little one are always on the go, then you need to get them some portable gifts. These Create n Colour 3D models are a lovely creative gift that can go anywhere with you and be used again and again. You can clip them together and use water to paint them and reveal their true colours underneath. Once they’re dry, you can use them again!
A Big Plush Unicorn
In my opinion, you can’t beat a big, soft plush for your kid to cuddle up to on Christmas day. I got this giant unicorn from Aldi, but there’s loads of similar ones out there. Check Amazon for a big soft plush.
Funny Flamingos
I like to get toys and games that I can play with with my daughter. I’ve found her school has a lot of games from Orchard Toys and she takes great delight in telling me when she has something at school. I like the look of this Funny Flamingos game as it looks like it has been made with lots of giggles in mind!
Sensory Balls
It can’t just be my kid who wants every single sensory or fidget toy going. I thought this was such a good idea for a gift when you’ve got a sensory seeker who enjoys a bit of variety. This is £12.99 on its own, but I’m a bargain-lover so I bought it as part of the 2 for £20 deal in B&M.
Fantasy Feast – Unicorn Edition
Very similar to some trademarked swamp-dwellers who often feel hunger pangs, this game has some unicorns who love a feast. Another bargain hunted by me, sitting at £6.99 alone or 2 for £12 from B&M. Obviously I got the deal.
Crazy Unicorn
I might have gone a little unicorn crazy myself in this gift guide. This Crazy Unicorn game is very similar to that other famous creature that bucks when it has been overloaded. This was the second part of the 2 for £12 deal.
Make Me Better Unicorn
Another fabulous find in the 2 for £20 offer, this poorly little unicorn is a lovely present for any aspiring fantasy vets. Another B&M, because mums love that place, and I’m no different.
Bumbumz Sugarbumz
Did you know Bumbumz are one of those collectable that people go wild over and hunt down, paying over the odds for? Well I didn’t. They’re just kinda cute and Aldi had a batch in. This little one was £2.99 but I’ve seen it on eBay since for £20! Anyway, if you see a reasonably priced Bumbumz toy anywhere, grab it! Kids love them and people are going mad for them. You can get a pack of 5 small ones for £12.99 from Amazon. Do it now so you don’t regret it!
Barbie
If you’ve got a girly girl who loves dolls then you can’t go wrong with a Barbie. She’s a legend for a reason. In the run up to Christmas Barbie products seem to be suddenly extortionate so grab a bargain whenever you see one. This one was in B&M but The Entertainer had some on sale last week, so shop around!
Curlimals
Cute interactive teddies are always a hit. We’ve had our Curlimals a little while now and my daughter loves them. The mum and baby interact with each other and they seem like real animals, which I think adds a lot of play value. We’ve got the hedgehog but I quite like the look of the bunny.
Stickers
I think little girls universally love stickers, so when I see some she’ll like, I buy them. If they look particularly impressive, I put them away for Christmas (like this bug A3 size pack). The thing with stickers is, they’ll stick them everywhere and it will probably be pretty indiscriminate so they don’t need to posh, they just need to look impressive. If you’re after bulk, places like The Works do big packs. I grabbed this Barbie one from one of the discount supermarkets.
Glam Buddies
This is another tried and tested recommendation. Glambuddies are puppies that come in a handbag and are a mystery surprise toy. Another B&M special but they’re not in any offers. Orlaith plays with hers all the time, she likes filling the bag and taking it around, but then she also enjoys taking the puppy out in it too. Our dog is “Ruby” but there are 4 to collect.
