As we enter a new decade, each room in the house will be exposed to new design trends. While these trends are unlikely to last the whole decade, they could well set the tone for the years to come. While other areas of the home, such as the kitchen and living room, will likely receive the majority of trends coverage, bathrooms will still be exposed to new ideas and design trends. With this in mind, we have teamed up with Bespoke Interiors who produce some of the best designed bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens Newcastle homes have to offer, to preview some of the design trends for bathrooms you should look out for in 2020.
Tech in the bathroom
Technology has had a significant impact on all our lives, and it has found its way into our homes more and more over the last decade. However, one room which has remained mostly technology-free is the bathroom. All signs point to this changing though and throughout 2020 and definitely the years following we’re going to see more technology in our bathrooms. This could be in the form of televisions fitted into the walls or speakers built into cabinets. One thing to be aware of with adding technology into your bathroom is you have to be extremely careful with the installation and make sure any electrical wires or components will be safe and protected from any contact with water.
Creative lighting
Making sure the lighting is right in your bathroom is really important. As most bathrooms have only one window, sometimes small and usually with translucent rather than transparent glass, ensuring the artificial light is balanced and effective is vital. Throughout 2020 we’re going to be seeing more and more interesting and creative lighting solutions in bathrooms. LED strip lighting which has become popular in other rooms such as the kitchen will likely find its way into the bathroom. Other options are spotlights placed strategically in the floor. This can create a lovely atmosphere in the room, softly lighting the room from the ground up. Lighting place around fixtures is also a way to generate some great effects. If you have mirrors attached to the wall, you can build them out from the wall with some lights strategically placed behind.

Statement walls
Bathrooms have, for a while now, been rooms where the design has remaining minimalism, clean and simple. Statement walls, however, are looking to change this with their patterns and bold colours. You can achieve a statement wall either through wallpaper or by using tiles to create a design. Wallpaper with a botanical theme will be extremely popular in 2020. This allows you to combine your statement wall with fresh flowers or plants and help the design feel more integrated. If you do bring real plants or flowers into your bathroom, remember that the heat and steam could impact them, along with a lack of natural light.
Black bathrooms
As mentioned, bathrooms have remained relatively consistent in their design recently, and that extends to the colours used. Bathrooms usually use light colours such as whites and creams. In 2020 this is going to get flipped on its head, and dark colours, particularly black, are going to become more popular in bathrooms. Some may choose to go further with this than others, for example, making a wall black. Others might just add black accents here and there to help bring the colour into the room and add some fantastic contrast. Either way, dark colours are coming into the bathroom in 2020.

If you’re looking to redecorate your bathroom this year we hope this gave you some ideas that can help make your bathroom a fantastic place to relax and a room you can really enjoy.
