I’ve always loved the idea of making my own cosmetics. I’m a bit obsessed with those videos on TikTok where they make and cut soap, or create bath bombs. It looks incredibly fun and like the perfect pastime for someone like me who loves nothing more than a relaxing bath.
What I didn’t realise was that you can get kits to make your own cosmetics! Aromantic sell these beautiful make-your-own kits for beauty, skincare and bathing. I was lucky enough to be sent this gorgeous Foaming Bath and Shower Kit to review.
Aromantic Foaming Bath and Shower Kit Review
The Aromantic Foaming Bath and Shower Kit contains everything you’ll need to create some lovely foaming bath and shower products. All the ingredients are natural and safe enough for children to join in with the product-making too!
Each kit contains:
- 2 x Lumorol K 5229
- Rice bran oil
- Cocoa butter
- Himalayam salt
- Essential oil (I got lavender)
- Emulsifying wax
- Preservative eco
- 2 x Empty bottles
- 4 x aluminium containers
- Thermometer
This is everything you need to make foaming bath oil, foaming bath melts and foaming salt scrub.
Foaming Bath Oil
This rich, creamy oil can be used in the bath or the shower and is super easy to make. It only uses 3 of the ingredients and is done at room temperature, so if you’ve got some inquisitive (older) children then they might like to make it with you.
It’s a little hard at first to work out how much of each ingredient you need as the instructions work in percentages. So at the start you have to work it out. I do think this is a good idea though as you can make any quantity if you’re working to percentages rather than specific amounts.
Foaming Bath Melts
These were great fun to make and I think I’ll probably be making some more again soon. I didn’t have a double boiler like the instructions asked for, so I just heated a pan on the lowest setting. It was an easy to follow guide and I’m really pleased with the end result!
The bath melts need to set and a silicone ice cube tray is recommended for shaping them. I only had this one in the shape of fruit, but I have to say I love how they look!
Foaming Salt Scrub
This salt scrub has been one of my favourite to use. It’s not drying like other salt scrubs and seems to moisturise as it exfoliates. This one required a bain marie to make, but again, I don’t have one so I used the pan trick!
This is where the percentages tripped me up, as I made too much of the first part of the mix (which is liquid) so when I added the salt, the ratio wasn’t quite right because I didn’t have enough salt. Thankfully I had so Himalayan bath salt in my cupboard and it all turned out very lovely!
I really enjoyed making and using my own cosmetics and will definitely be looking into doing it again. The flexibility of what you can make is really good too. For example, the essential oil included was lavender, but if you have other oils on hand, you can use them instead. I also have some ingredients left over, so I’ll be making another batch of skincare again soon.
