Mr Pop! Review: A Great Game for all the Family!

We were sent Mr Pop! to try out on one of our family game nights in return for writing an honest review.

Over the past few months, we’ve got really into playing family games. My youngest recently turned four, so he’s better at understanding turn-taking and following simple game rules.

Spoiler alert – we love it!

Mr Pop! by John Adams is suitable from 3+, and doesn’t require batteries (which I think makes it a perfect family Christmas present!)

Mr Pop! What’s Inside the Box?

The components to Mr Pop! are pretty simple. His head is packed separately to his body (which is in a plastic bath attached to the timer) a selection of facial features are also included, as well as cards depicting different looks Mr Pop can go for.

How to play Mr Pop!

The aim of the game is to build Mr Pop’s face before the timer runs out. If the timer runs out while you’re making his face, his head will pop off and everyone will jump (they do in our house, anyway!)

The proper way to play is to select a card with a face on it, set the timer and try to build that face. This is how everyone but my son plays it. He takes a more free-spirited approach and makes whatever face he feels like at the time!

This is very almost one of the suggested faces.

What we think of Mr Pop!

Since we received Mr Pop in the post, Greg has asked to play it daily. We’ve indulged him, of course and he claims it’s his favourite game! Emma, who is 9, also loves it and gets pretty competitive. I’m not as good at beating the timer as I thought I’d be – much to the delight of both my kids!

Mr Pop! is a huge hit in our house and I would recommend it to others who have a young family where the children are aged anywhere between 3 and 10 (probably even older, I’m 31 and I love it!)
