It seems like our wait is over and we have finally been able to get on the property ladder. I’d hate to jinx anything because we’ve not completed yet, but everything looks like it’s going through (so fingers crossed)!
It’s been a long time coming, I’m 37 and never been a homeowner. It was starting to look like buying a home of our own was going to be impossible, so I still have to pinch myself when I realise we’ve come this far.
Now that the news has settled with me a little, I’ve been able to think about the practical side of things. We’ve got a lot of stuff, so we’ve got a lot of packing to do!
With packing, comes sorting, selling and generally having a clear-out so I’ve been working on this while trying to keep everything else running.

A Clothes Overhaul
Having sorted through some of my things, I’ve noticed most of my clothes aren’t up to much. I had a lot of cheap pairs of leggings that had either gone see through or had various holes in them. I decided enough was enough and they had to go. (I replaced them with some LOVALL leggings because they are much thicker and more durable – also they don’t go saggy and baggy, so they stay true to size and stretchy).
Next, I noticed most of my jeans weren’t worth keeping. I’ve lost a couple of stone, but I also sized up when I originally bought some of my jeans, so I was clinging onto jeans that just aren’t wearable. Since there was nothing wrong with them, they’re going to be listed on Vinted. I’ve since got my hands on some new jeans.
I have a lot of dresses I no longer wear too, so they’ll be headed to Vinted, and everything that’s had its day will get donated or binned (I can’t remember if my local charity shop wants rags donated, so I’ll find out first). I’m trying not to but more clothes, but I have got some new chinos, so I can attempt to create more of a capsule wardrobe.
Car Boot Sale
I also had my very first stall at a car boot sale too. We’ve been trying to clear out absolutely everything we can and make as much money as we can for moving. This means that we’re trying new ways to sell our things and a car boot sale was one of them.
We got up really early on the bank holiday (5 a.m., if you must know) and dragged the kids off to the car boot sale at Hemswell. We struggled to get out in a timely fashion so we pitched up late, in what was arguably a bad spot. Thankfully, even a bad spot saw a lot of foot traffic and we sold a healthy chunk of our stuff, with the profit going towards our moving van.
The kids had a great time and both got a new toy each, which delighted them. It was a hot day though and there were a few periods of boredom. Believe it, or not, Orlaith put on a grumpy face and posed for this picture!
Selling on Facebook Marketplace
We’d never sold on Facebook marketplace before this month either. I’m a bit of a hoarder, so I don’t often sell things. If I no longer need it, I will pass it on to friends or charity.
Since we have a lot to sell and need things to be picked up quickly, I decided to give Facebook marketplace a try. I must have had good luck with the first few uploads as they sold quickly, no one haggled, and everyone came and collected when they said they would. After the initial good luck, I ended up with lots of dead ends. I got a lot of messages offering well below what I’d listed things for, lots of people promising to come then ghosting me, and not much else sold. If you’ve got any tips, let me know!
